Also, if the National League ends up adopting the DH because of this, I don’t see how we can consider the national response to the virus as anything but an utter failure.

Sorry to hear about your father. I hope he recovers quickly.
At risk doesn't have anything to do with the likelihood of contracting the virus, though. Anyone can get it. (In fact, since there's no cure, and it's fairly contagious, most people are going to get it eventually).
The at risk people are the ones who have underlying health conditions and stand the greatest chance of dying.

Fiery but right on.

Hey thanks I’m well aware of that. As I explained, he is experiencing symptoms which is why he was able to be tested. Hence, me clarifying that ppl not in the higher risk demographics are actually getting sick.

El Prez is something else. He won a charity auction and now gets to watch a game with Goodell in Goodell’s “man cave”. No way they actually let this happen

Prez wins either way. Only way Roger wins is if he goes through with it and answers the door wearing the clown shirt and hangs like one of the boys. (very unlikely)

I have to agree here. UNICEF actually came out the other day and stated that 1.2M Children could die as a result of lockdown related issues.

Granted, it's from the Lancet group which has a horrendous track record of accuracy both historically and in their initial assumptions of this virus, usually overestimating impact.
Still, we're ignoring the excess deaths we're seeing in many states because people with heart attack or stroke symptoms were afraid to get treatment. We stopped chemotherapy for millions of individuals. There's a cost benefit tradeoff of certain lockdown decisions.

- Increased substance abuse
- Increased domestic abuse
- Increased depression
- Increased suicides/attempts
- Lack of health care
- Lack of education
- Lack of religious practice
- Lack of employment
- Lack of family/friend interaction
I am sure that plenty could be added to the list. I read today that 1/3 of all suicides are committed by persons unemployed at time of death. Also stated that during the great depression that the suicide rate increased to 18.1% per 100k. It is a very deadly game.
I totally understand that people are worried and concerned for their health during this pandemic but we can not just write off the people that we will lose due to a total collapse of our society. I would rather die on my feet standing up than cowering in fear of what might happen.
If that means I have to do more to help those that are in serious danger and having to stay sheltered then that is what I will do. If the shite gets me then it just gets me. I have had a really good life.

Mike Rowe, in an interview this week, said it well:
"When will we remember that there is more to living than trying to not die?"
If the "benchmarks" for progressives to re-open is a "cure" (lol Garcetti), then those municipalities/states are in a for a long ride (at least until Nov. 3rd).

His comment was to FULLY re-open, and I haven't seen any other "progressives" make that claim so I don't see it being the benchmark.
I do wonder why we've just seemed to abandon the 3 phase guidelines the White House released a few weeks ago. It was one of the most reasonable things this administration has released, and it seems it has just been shelved and forgotten by everyone.

We might be a 3rd world country if we wait for a vaccine, and then the process of producing enough of the vaccine to do any good. That could be a year, or a year and a half from now. Even Dr Fauci said he only represented the medical side of the virus. It wasnt his job to access the toll it was taking on the economy and on human lives by staying closed. He said other people such as economists would have to do that and then the administration will have to make a decision based on the best information from both sides. (Its really going to be damned if you do and damned if you dont. He is going to be picking the lesser of 2 evils).

A better social safety net would alleviate a lot of this. Income replacement and universal healthcare alone would alleviate all of them except the religious, education, and social interaction from your list. Removing the stress of how to pay your bills or the stress of being able to afford going to the hospital are huge.

Could it be that many rational and reasonable adults are looking around, assessing their own risk level, and proceeding accordingly?

Universal healthcare is garbage. Income replacement isn’t an answer for anything. All that does is make people more dependent on the government. Not sure why most liberals want the government to make all of their decisions for them. It’s like they are scared to be free and get off their asses and make a better life for themselves

After all of this, your recommendation is MORE government?
Is life hard? Yes.
Should our societal aim be to eliminate stress? No! Stress is good. The mother of invention is necessity.

I don't disagree, and I'm not in favor of waiting until then to fully re-open. I don't think we will be fully back to normal until we have a vaccine, but that doesn't mean we don't explore ways to keep people employed and our economy humming as best it can. That's why I brought up the guidelines the WH released a few weeks ago. It wasn't perfect, but it was something that could be tailored to each state's current situation, while allowing states to modify it as they needed.
To do that, people are going to have to make sacrifices though. Giving up summer camp for kids, giving up concerts and sporting events, limiting visits to restaurants and bars, limiting interstate travel, working from home as much as possible, wearing masks when going to the grocery or hardware stores, etc.

Masks don’t prevent anything.
