AL.com interviewed all-time Tide great John Hannah for today's sports news. All the "every game is important" guys will howl at this:

Q. Do you still go to Alabama games?

A. I don't. I watch it on TV. I don't go to games. I have a hard time sitting in the stands. I watch them when they are playing somebody good. I don't have any use for them when they play the convents.

When you are as good as we are 80% of games are cupcakes.

Even in “good games” we have a 50/50 chance of beating the shite out of the other team like they’re Division 3.

Whatever, John, but it sure sucked when we lost to that convent from LA Monroe. And the one from UCF on homecoming. And the convent at LA Tech. TWICE. And the convent at Southern Miss five times. And the convent at Northern Illinois.

Sure, those games are guaranteed now, but they won't always be. Hell, when Saban eventually loses his edge, HE may have some losses like that. Bryant's last two games against USM were a loss and a tie.

You can count me among them. They don't seem important until the little sisters of the poor are kicking your arse. Of course that's when the John Hannahs of the world (who suddenly DO care about them after all) get on the phone with the AD or whichever trustee they know and start demanding coaching changes.

He already does...the loss to LA-Monroe was in his first year...

As for Hannah, I don't think he considers Southern Miss a convent game, we've been playing them for years...I think he's talkin' the FCS and some of the lower tier FBS schools. In the '70s, Bama was scheduling 2, some times 3, power conference OOC games. Heck, in '78, we opened with #10 Nebraska, then traveled to #11 Missouri, then played #7 USC; after one conference game, we then traveled and played Washington. You just don't see scheduling like that any more and it's not all Bama's fault...schools are more worried 'bout bowl games and positioning for the play-offs...

Like you, I too think all games count but some are way better to watch than others...
