stoutland would be allowed to recruit off campus now, right?

He will be fine under the scrutiny and pressure. He was a pretty good OC with the Pats for Belicheck and Brady— lots of pressure there.

I hope this hire pans out. Tough act to follow for O’Brien.

I have a hard time seeing Stoutland coming back. I wouldn't be shocked if the new Eagles coach retained him or if another NFL team got him.

I have an acquaintance who is ex college/ NFL player who is familiar with O’Brien. He texted me he is skeptical of the hire. His words are “O’Brien is terrible with the kids and can’t develop QBs.” He said Alabama has brought in a “ low energy sour puss.” Wow...
We will see.
We will see.

Check out what some no-name QB who used to play for the Patriots said about Bill O'Brien when he left NE for Penn State in 2012:
"He's been a great coach and friend. We have a great relationship, probably a very unique relationship in that we communicate all the time," Brady said about O'Brien. "I always enjoy working with him, and he's done an incredible job with this team and this offense."

Saban said it's ongoing process and that He's interviewing some people for the OC job. So Maybe O'Brien isn't a lock.

That reminds me I need to go back and check out the coaches room broadcast and see what Hugh "Outcalls" Freeze was breaking down.

Iirc, Saban typically waits and let's UA announce hires after the contracts are done. What he said:
Saban: Alabama in the process of finding 'the right offensive coordinator' (BOL)
quote:
... after the Crimson Tide’s 52-24 win over Ohio State to win the 2021 College Football Playoff National Championship Game, Saban was asked how close he is to hiring a new offensive coordinator and if he expects any other coaches to find a new job.
“We always let you know those things when they happen,” Saban said via Zoom. “I can't make any predictions about our staff. I think we have a wonderful staff. I like the chemistry on our staff. We're happy for Sark. I don't know what other opportunities will be out there for our coaches. We'll just have to wait and see. I can't answer that. It's an ongoing process for us to find the right offensive coordinator. We're certainly in the process of doing that.”
Former Houston Texans head coach Bill O’Brien is reportedly nearing a deal to be Saban’s next offensive play-caller, according to The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman. O’Brien has experience as a head coach in the NFL and college (Penn State) but rose up the coaching ranks after working as an offensive assistant coach and coordinator under Bill Belichick in New England. ...

Great hire. The man is a great offensive coach, was really successful as a head coach in the NFL, and it all fell apart for him when he became GM and made stupid moves. That has nothing to do with how he'll be as an OC. This is a homerun hire, IMO.
We need a guy who can help Bryce develop. The raw talent is there, but after not really having a real offseason a year ago he needs someone who can help him grow into the starter he needs to be next season. Be warned, it's a young offense. It will take time for things to mesh. Don't judge BOB early, we're going to be breaking in a LOT on offense.

He won his division four times in the five years prior to this one, and went to the Super Bowl as an OC with Brady. Plus, he did a great job at Penn State.
The only real knock on his record I see, is that, in his only stint as a college OC, his teams went 1-22 and were shut out several times, including once by an FCS team.

Yeah, it was bad. And in 23 games, the only win was against FCS Virginia Military Institute.
