If  that happens something went wrong elsewhere in the hiring process. I understand your reasoning, but with Sark as the hire, it is a waste to have a standalone QB coach when we could get another positonal coach on defense.

I completely disagree. Saban has talked at length about the fact that the OC can't actually spend a lot of practice time with the QBs due the necessity of him being else coordinating the offense. Additionally, if the OC is in the booth, then QBs are the only position group without its coach on the sidelines, which is crazy.

Face it, a dedicated QB coach is now a permanent position after the addition of the 10th assistant.

Are off-field staff allowed to talk to on-field staff on headsets from the booth?

I'm not sure. They passed a rule this past season that limits the number of people that can have headsets. Stupid rule

Yeah, I just now googled it and read about it. A few additional staff besides the HC and 10 on-field assistants can talk on headsets. So, Sark could call plays from the sidlines and someone like Butch could be his bird's-eye viewer from up the booth.

Nah. But he's got a lot of offensive coaching experience. If he's shadowing Sark and sitting in on meetings, game planning, etc., he'd be well-prepared to be Sark's extra set of eyes up in the booth. Kiffin called plays from the sidelines.

We never know what Saban has planned. If Jones stays, he will either be the QB coach or the WR coach or TE coach. It'll be interesting. Saban has shut down all of the chatter

I don't think Butch will be an on-field coach. I think he'd be well suited to be Sark's main off-field analyst and booth eyes during games like I described. Butch isn't qualified to coach QBs.

I think Coach will want him as a recruiter. The players love him. He could be the WR coach and still be the eyes for Sark in the booth or the TE coach and do the same.

I don't think Saban wants Butch recruiting or in an on-field coaching role. He really isn't nearly as good of a recruiter as some seem to think. He lucked into a few big legacy recruits, but he rarely won head-to-head battles for elite recruits. He took a lot of low 4-star and 3-star players and signed large classes to get a deceptive overall class score. But the average player rating wasn't that good. A large portion of his recruits never amounted to much. His recruiting wasn't nearly as good as it appears to be at a glance.

Player development may have been lacking but he came in to a dumpster fire and got respectable talent I thought . Especially some top notch DL some of which were injured or didn’t pan out

I don't believe Butch would turn down on the field coaching jobs to stay at Bama for an off the field job. That's just my opinion though.

According to Tim Watts, that's essentially what he did. Within two days after Butch flew up to Maryland, he decided he didn't want the on-field coaching job there, and he returned to his analyst job at Alabama.

well, we shall see. If that's the case it's because Tennessee is still paying him a boatload every month

Exactly, Butch can afford to take his time and be picky. I doubt Saban (or Butch) prefers him to be an on-field position coach. It doesn't make sense to pay him a position coach's salary when you can better leverage his experience in an analyst role at $35k/year, while keeping UT on the hook for nearly $200k/mo?

200K per month until 2021. I assume those monies Butch is paid from Bama is deducted from money owed by 10RC.

Would Coach Kool go off field once Davis has his no-show clause ended?
