Even though he's not my first choice, those kind of statements make me want to see them proven wrong.

Aaron Suttles tweeted a poll about an hour ago that asked who you would like the next Bama coach to be and there were only 2 choices and both were Prohm.

He wasn’t really giving us his list or anything. He just said Prohm is probably gonna be our target but he has a high buyout or something like that

I would hate to hire Prohm and then steal Matt Campbell from them when Saban retires.

Seriously, Prohm isn't that great. I don't want to see Bama paying ishtload of money when there is better value out there.

I really hope that's not one of the main reasons why we're going after him.

Someone posted Prohm’s buyout yesterday. I think it is the neighborhood of $3 million. His contract is structured so that his buyout is half the salary remaining on his deal. He’s currently averaging $2 million a year and his contract runs through the 2021-22 season. That’s what I found.

Why? This isn't a premier job. We aren't UNC or anything. About the only ways we are going to be able to lure away a current P-5 coach with a track record of success are finding someone underpaid and offering to overpay them (this would probably just result in another Marshall fiasco where we get played to leverage a raise) or bringing in someone with a strong connection to UA and/or the state. If Prohm had been mediocre at ISU we wouldn't be looking at him. He has been pretty good though, and the fact that he's a UA alum makes him leaving his current job to come here a distinct possibility.

That said, there are several guys I think Byrne should get a no from before contacting him.

I strongly believe a connection to the university should not come into play unless you are looking at 2 guys that are equal on your list. If that means 5 more people have to tell you no before you get to him, so be it.

Is the rest of the quote "... and is Alabama's option #4 or 5"? Because I'm good with that.

I think he is a good coach, just not "break the bank" good. He is going to demand a Shaka Smart type deal/buyout

I just don't understand why a guy like Forbes isn't the runaway candidate

- Winner: Check
- Recruiter: Check
- XsOs: Check
- Talent Development: Check

Probably could snag him for $1.5mil with a very friendly buyout /escape plan too

Forbes is probably a better on court/development coach than Bruce Pearl. I know I said I want Alabama to be better, but Forbes is the type of guy that makes me think "maybe not that much better"

I thought this was interesting concerning the last coaching search. I had no idea Battle met with Rick Pitino.

From Pitino:

quote:

I met with the Alabama athletic director in talking about different guys for that job and Richard’s name came up,” the elder Pitino told Rome. “Richard was seriously considering making that move. But he called me up and said ‘You know, Dad, Alabama is a great job but I don’t deserve it.’ You know what, for a 32-year-old, that’s about as proud as I can be as a dad. He was just so humble – he said ‘I haven’t done enough to warrant any move, or even consider any move. He said we’ve got a tough rebuilding job here at Minnesota and I’m going to get it done.’” Asked whether he had the same perspective at his son’s age, Pitino Sr. jokingly replied: “I didn’t have anything, I would have been out the door in a second.”
