Per BOL:
Things we're hearing:
** Derrick Ansley moving on to CSU made perfect sense given Nick Saban's decision to go another direction at the coordinator level. Ansley has had opportunities to move up and with UA not a possibility this time around, taking over the D in Fort Collins is the move for the young assistant.
** Expectation continues to be for new defensive staff hire Pete Golding and co-DC/outside linebackers coach Tosh Lupoi to work together in coordinating the front and back ends of the defense. Not exactly sure how the titles will work at this point, but a combined effort is expected.
** Given the departure of Ansley and Golding's background in the secondary, Golding looks to be the obvious choice to coach DBs. That said, we're told that in addition to LB coaches, Saban is also vetting potential candidates who are secondary guys. Again, the call at this point would be for Golding to coach the secondary with a LB coach coming in to replace Jeremy Pruitt at the spot.
** As Josh Newberg Noles247 reported moments ago, Mike Locksley is in the mix for a position at FSU. Locksley would like to make the move back up to the coordinator level, but it isn't clear if new FSU coach Willie Taggart will offer Locksley a title that includes a coordinator designation, something he already has at UA as co-OC to Brian Daboll. Former UF coach Jim McElwain made a similar run at Locksley a year ago but wasn't willing to meet all of Locksley's demands.
** While much of the focus is on the defensive side of the ball at UA, we're hearing that changes on the offensive side of the ball are a possibility -- and they may not be limited to just one spot. The feeling right now is that Daboll will be back for the 2018 season, but, again, a volatile job market could change things in a moment's notice (see: Steve Sarkisian a year ago). If Locksley makes the equivalent of a lateral move to FSU, it will be taken as a sign that Daboll will be around next season, making it impossible for Locks to move up at UA for the time being.
** Pruitt made a strong run at UA strength and conditioning coach Scott Cochran only to come up short. Cochran has reached a point in Saban's inner circle where he's not only a valuable presence but a trusted voice as well. Something to consider when looking at decisions for on the field staff.
** As for a timeframe, we're told staff moves will go down sooner rather than later. In other words, prior to NSD in some -- if not all -- instances.

The idea of an older DC to work with Tosh for 1-2 years isn't a bad one. It is basically what Saban did to get Kirby ready in 2008. Kevin Steele had worked in the 3-4 a good bit in his career prior to being hired. But I don't know of a prior connection.
I would have to comb through former assistants of Saban's to see who might fit that criteria.

Just want someone that is familiar with the 3-4 and knows a complex defense like Saban's

Report: Alabama associate AD Ed Marynowitz expected to leave
quote:
On Wednesday, Football Scoop’s Zach Barnett reported that Alabama associate athletics director Ed Marynowitz is expected to leave the school. Barnett reports that Marynowitz, who works with the Crimson Tide’s player personnel department and football operations while assisting with athletic administration, began his current role in June 2016.
Barnett reports that Marynowitz “holds an offer to join super agent Jimmy Sexton’s staff.” Longtime NFL personnel executive Michael Lombardi also shared word via Twitter on Wednesday that Marynowitz has an offer to join the Oakland Raiders and work in Jon Gruden’s personnel department.
Here’s how Barnett describes Marynowitz’s role with Alabama:
Marynowitz holds a key off-the-field role for the Crimson Tide. As associate AD for football, he serves as a point person between the player personnel and football operations departments while also serving as the football program’s liaison with the athletic administration.
Marynowitz is in his second stint with the Crimson Tide. He joined the program in December 2008 as director of player personnel, helping ramp up the dynasty that continues to this day.
Before his current stint in Tuscaloosa, Marynowitz worked for the Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Eagles in those franchises’ respective personnel departments.

Coaching interviews: Former #49ers coordinator Jim O'Neil is interviewing for the #Packers LBs coach job. ... #Bama DBs coach Derrick Ansley is interviewing for the #Raiders secondary coach job.
I missed this from earlier today. This was reported by Ian Rapoport.

I did too. So I have no idea what is going on with him now.

So he's still on the staff as of now.
That's interesting.

DuckTerritory.com has learned that Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal is hiring a new strength and conditioning coach. Sources have informed DuckTerritory.com that Aaron Feld has become Cristobal's top target to replace Irele Oderinde, who left to go work with Willie Taggart at Florida State. The two sides have agreed to a deal and it will be finalized shortly.

I wonder if Kirby will make another run at Cochran
Never mind. I think Oregon is going after their assistant strength coach. Sorry guys

Feld has worked at Georgia since 2015 as the Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning.
This looks like it is just their assistant strength coach. Scott Sinclair is their head strength coach.

I don't think a third tenure is in the cards.

If Locks leaves then perhaps Nick will reach out to Lance Taylor(now at the Panthers) as his receiver coach.
Posted on 1/11/18 at 9:17 am to JoseyWalesTheOutlaw
He has interviewed him before.
Taylor went on to get more experience at Stanford. He did a solid job recruiting the Alabama gulf coast for them.
With Pruitt, and likely Ansley moving on, a guy with deep ties in Alabama would be good.

Not big on hiring alumni over a field of more qualified coaches.

I was thinking more as a tenth assistant, depending on which way Saban leans for that. Which is likely defense.

Oakland has hired Derrick Ansley, according to FootballScoop.
They had also said Colorado State was hiring him.

Sounds like Ansley to Oakland is official. Just got the notification from the ESPN app

If we were to go the alumni route, Freddie Kitchens would be more likely.
Has worked for Saban before, has been approached by Saban about returning before, and likely needs a job now.
