I wasn't worried last week but I am a little worried after yesterday. I saw us win it all behind a struggling offensive line in 2015 so I know we can do it again should the struggle continue. Oh and I know that 15 line won an award but everyone saw Henry hit behind the line consistently.

I am afraid we don't have a true power back that will make something out of nothing.

Ridiculous statement imo. Henry got tackled for a loss many, many times. I think he was more of a one cut then speed back even at 240 than he was a power back. Najee and Brian both are true power backs. They are gonna put together a nice year.

Problem is almost half those yards came on 2 carries with one of them being pretty much a pass play. There were too many times where the RBs were hit in the backfield or had to make like 2-3 guys miss just to pick up 2-3 yards.

There’s also pass protection issues. The announcers even pointed that out a few times. Tua’s 33 yards came because the pocket down.

Again these numbers alone would’ve been great but considering it’s NMSU it’s not as impressive as it should’ve been. NMSU is so awfully bad that they should’ve been consistently completely dominated even if they weren’t trying.

Maybe we can redshirt Neal so he can move to Tackle.

Najee had a couple very nice runs. So I got hope. He could use some room to run.

he is a starter and one of the best 7. Why RS him? We need him to win this year. This is our year if we are going to win it all. We lose too much on O after this year to the NFL.

Because he seems out of position, lost, and Brown will return.

This group of RB's are below any group of RB's Nick's had at Bama. 22 and 24 are just good and NOT great and neither have the potential to get there. 27 has to get better and quick. It will all fall on 13 and the passing game once we actually play a good football team.

We may need to use an OL as a TE like we did with B. Greene as well.

Our TE's are not blocking worth a flip.

I think the biggest issue is our style of running. Whatever happened to a running back hitting the whole with a head of steam? The hesitate , hand off, hesitate and then run style that we employ most of the time seems like the biggest problem.

I’ve been very vocal through 2 games about OL play. It worries me. Duke and NMSU got way too much penetration in our backfield way too often. On running plays, the RB is having to make decisions and guys miss in the backfield, not at the line. On pass plays, Tua’s next clean pocket for more than a split second will be his first. I could sort of talk myself off the ledge against Duke because that’s a solid, gritty football team that plays over its head most weeks. But NMSU? Y’all, we’re talking about one of the worst D1 teams in America and they have been for years. We should have had our way with them both rushing and passing and the skill guys did. But up front, we won most of the battles, but it was ugly and close, not the domination it should have been. We’ve got problems there and we’d better solve them quickly. A decent defense will make us one dimensional. A good defense will give us hell and tee off on Tua based on the first 2 games. I will be watching Saturday with concern how we hold up to an SEC front. Boom doesn’t have the dudes to beat us but he’s got enough juice and is a good enough defensive mind to make our run game disappear if the OL doesn’t step it up.

At RB, we are missing Trey Sanders more than we expected. K Rob needs to get more carries.

75 of that came from a pass that was behind the line which resulted in a rush. That boosts the average big time. I think you have a point in fans over criticizing it a bit but their play has been shaky.

There’s definitely a concern but I’m confident it will get fixed. Talent is there.

The only stats I care about regarding the run game are what our two main RBs do. When discussing our OL play and the run game, I couldn't care less about the Ruggs play or the 3rd team RB's numbers in garbage time.

Harris and Robinson were 23 carries for 125 yards, 5.4 YPG. 5.4 YPG isn't bad at all for a whole season, but it's pretty pedestrian for that opponent.

The offensive line play, especially in the run game, has not been good at times. Everyone knows that. So we get Brown back in a few games? OK. Will that make a huge difference? I dunno...he wasn't even selected as high as a 3rd team All-SEC guy. Yeah, he has experience, so maybe. It's not like we're getting Chance Warmack back.

Will this OL improve enough for Alabama to win a championship behind? Maybe. Maybe not. No one knows yet. That's why we watch the games.

They sure aren't Henry, Drake, Jacobs, or D. Harris.

And the OL sure as hell aren't Fluker, Warmack, Jones, Kouandijo, or Kelly. They aren't Williams or Pierschbacher or Bozeman or CRobinson. Even Anthony Steen started seven games in the NFL.

We've had OLs in the past that some of these guys would never get meaningful snaps on.

As far as the run game goes, it's a combination of the RBs and the OL..

To me it seems like a major disadvantage for the linemen. They are having to block their man way too long before the back gets to the hole.

Absolutely. Averages don’t tell the whole story and we certainly have plenty of room for improvement. It just seems like every year we play some rinky-dink opponent and folks like to complain about the O-line.

I’m all for using message board space to point out how and where we can improve. I just can’t allow myself to worry about OL play after a game like yesterday and especially since we go through this routine every single year.

Agreed. All the dancing around shite in the backfield gets old quick. If there’s not a hole, make one.

Stinchcomb made a reference about Najee during the game. If he would just square his shoulders and hit the hole, at his size he’ll get 4yds but he’s looking to take to the house ever play.
