Wow. If you really feel that way you prolly shouldn’t be in the discussion anyway . I see both sides of the argument but some stuff in this thread is way over the top

I've lived in several countries and seen a lot of ways that countries can be managed and folks can live. Among first world countries, the US provides its citizens with one of the lowest, if not the lowest, qualities of life on Earth. Most US citizens don't know it and are blissfully ignorant.

I'm proud of being a Southerner, and proud to be from Alabama. I'm kinda proud and kinda not to be from the United States. It's a really fricked up place. shite, that one country consumes 80% of the worlds psychotropic medication. It's literally a crazy, fricked place. But it's my home (that I'll never live in again) and it's where CFB is, so...

I'm morally conservative myself overall and disagree significantly with much of the liberal agenda, but this Republican congress (now split) has strayed farther away from democracy that any group before it.

The 2-party Plutocracy that is the US Federal Government still technically needs your vote, and they've successfully convinced half the country that the other half is to blame, and you've all fallen for it. The Democratic and Republican party are in cahoots together, and the average American citizen is more interested in being angry at his neighbor than waking up to the truth - you don't live in a representative democracy anymore.

It is crazy, brother. Everyone just needs to make a concerted effort to take in fair, unbiased news, and then make educated, informed decisions.

Always remember, if the news tells you how to feel, it's not news - it's propaganda.

Well here's the thing... the NCAA has been around over 100 years, doing things as it has always has, amateur athletes. Now all of a sudden they are turning large profits, thanks to huge TV contracts. You're like big government stepping in and trying to break up a monopoly and spread wealth like a socialist. Literally not a soul is forced to participate in college athletics, they choose to.

No one is restricting anyone's ability to earn a living. You need to come down to earth and acknowledge a couple of realities.

The main one is that this has all been looked at before. Northwestern players took this very issue all the National Labor Relations Board which is basically the arbiter of and enforcer of labor law in the U.S. They got bitch slapped 5-0 against although the question is still open to debate.

...and here's how they spend it:

"The NCAA reported a revenue of $1.1 billion for the 2017 fiscal year after releasing their annual audited financial statement.

The NCAA, which operates as a non-profit organization, surpassed the $1 billion threshold for the first time.

According to the statement, the increase in revenue comes from hikes in television and marketing fees, plus money generated from championship events and investment income.

About $26 million of that comes from a sale in an enterprise which helps athletics departments in their day-to-day tasks, such as scheduling and official assignments.

Division I members received $560.3 million in distributions for the NCAA's biggest expense.

The NCAA gets the majority of its revenue from two sources: The Division I Men's Basketball Championship, along with marketing rights and championship tickets sales.

The tournament television rights brought in $821.4 million and the tickets sales brought in almost $130 million.

In 2016, the NCAA extended its tournament deal with CBS and Turner through 2032 for $8.8 billion."

You're arguing the semantics of the word "provide", which is ridiculous. How about this:

"...among first world countries, the US affords its citizens the opportunities to obtain one of the lowest, if not the lowest, qualities of life on Earth. Most US citizens don't know it and are blissfully ignorant."

Secondly, "provides" is exactly the correct vocabulary for the taxpayer. The government exists for you, not the other way around. Yes, the government should PROVIDE a shitload of things to its taxpayers.

Some of you guys are just ridiculous.

It's a sad day indeed when the concept of paying your labor force a fair wage is considered socialism.

You're literally arguing the side of Big Railroad, and are obviously in favor of working 6 days a week and getting paid in script that's only good at the company store.

I lack the ability to shake my head enough to adequately show my disdain for your opinions.

I remember when most folks worked 6 days a week!..and thought nothing of it....hell, sometimes my daddy worked all 7 days in the week, and he was a professional man.

For the record, I am not disparaging a man who works. A lazy man is no man at all.

But working a lot is not the same as working hard, working intelligently, or working efficiently. And I personally believe that a well-lived life is also a well-balanced life, and should be full of leisure pursuits as well as full of quality time spent with friends, family, and loved ones.

If your daddy was happy, I'm happy for him. I'm sure he was/is a fine man. But I view my one finite life differently.
