But Byrne sat and talked with Wimp the entire sec tournament. Obviously, Wimp wouldn’t come back, but he knows he isn’t watching good basketball and I believe Byrne is smart enough to listen to him if he doesn’t already know it himself.

Grant was a good hire at the time.

Wimp calls every one tough, like a very good opposing player a "booger bear".
Ex:
"Coach, what do you think about Zion Williamson and his game?"
"Great player, plays with intensity. He's a booger bear."

Got it. Wimp was before my memory began of Alabama basketball, never really heard him speak much.

Based on what? That Florida wanted him?

Grant was an awful hire from day one.

Literally nobody thought that.

The most negative opinion on the hire was that he took over a good program from Capel and that it was possible he was riding his coattails. Nobody thought it was an "awful" hire.

Yeah, that is revisionist history. Most everyone was excited about the Grant hire, and many college basketball experts raved about it.

Well, I definitely think that's the only holdup. But I think (hope?) they're trying to work out the finances. My gut tells me Avery will be gone on, or before, the day in April when his buyout decreases. But, I'm also starving right now, so it might just be hunger pangs.

Posted in the main thread, but there is a random guy on Twitter(who knows how connected or who he knows) that is claiming Steve Prohm will be hired once both UA and IA St. seasons are over.

Update on my link, apparently the guy who posted that is apparently a UNC fan and they are in the same bracket as Iowa State, so he could just be trolling.

I started going to Bama football games in the early 60s’. I say that to say I was of an age to remember the Whimp era. I went to a good many home games when he was our coach. They had Whimp Alike night where everyone got a mask with Whimps pic on it. I still have mine.
What I am about to say may sound like something I’m making up but if you asked anyone else who kept up with the team and program might agree.
Whimp was loved by the basketball fans. To the point he was even or slightly ahead of the football program. This was after the Bryant years .When his problem with his secretary became public knowledge he was let go.
The problem could have been handled in a way that he would not have been forced out.
Placed on leave until the legal problem were settled.
I will always believe if handled differently a way could have been made that he would have been our coach for another 20 years and the program would be in much better shape.

Basketball was big during the Wimp era. Still have my Wimp alike masks too. The Plaid Palace was a thing. The alumni association in Montgomery would charter buses for several games a year and you could pay $30 or whatever it was and get a ticket and a ride to the game and back with a sack meal, BYOB. That is what has made the losing so hard to take. Basketball was exciting and it didn't matter if Coleman was old or whatever.

Bama basketball can be a lot of fun with the right coach and I hope Byrne can find him.
