Was some of the worst officiating I have ever seen in basketball...there, I said it, I feel better now!

The “blue blood” definitely got the calls.

Still trying to figure which was worse: spending 10 minutes analyzing if the ball grazed Petty’s shorts or the no-call charge.

The charge was exponentially worse. That was an egregious no-call. Herb was set and he got hit square in the chest by a dude who was completely out of control. The Petty thing was bullshite, but the ball hit his shorts. They just had to go ultra slo-mo and zoom in to see it.

The no call on Herb after giving that all game, and then the no call on Gary after giving that all game were pretty indicative of the human psychology and not wanting to effect the outcome of a game.

You see it all the time in the penalty box in soccer too. What's called a foul at midfield 10/10 times is called a foul in the box 2/10 times because they're hesitant to reward a penalty. It's pretty maddening in college basketball though, it's like a plate umpire changing his strike zone in the 9th inning.

We don't have much to gripe about because we missed so many free throws, and that's what's going to eat at the guys this morning, but we still could've won the game despite that had we gotten some of those calls that they gave for the first 38 minutes

Glad you feel better, but it’s not why we lost.

It was a factor though.

The officials ended up having too much influence in the outcome. No question about that.

But when you turn the ball over almost twice as much.Go 11/25 from the line.Jack up 28 3's and make 7?...You NORMALLY are going to get what you deserve in that particular ballgame, and that is a BIG L.....

They battled as hard as anyone could have without their best stuff. No doubt in my mind.

yeah. It sucked.

For the last 20 years or so I am mostly just an Alabama football fan and haven't watched many other games in any sport, but if I may opine, I think this basketball team deserves a lot of credit. I don't think many people, before the season, expected UA to win the regular season and SEC tournament. Was interesting to read the game thread last night. It reminded me very much of the football threads when UA isn't playing well. I guess I should have expected that but for some goofy reason I did not.

Except they called a foul on Gary on UCLA's possession following the no-call on Gary's shot. It was a foul on Gary, so hard to complain about that call other than they completely ignored a similar foul on our end of the floor. I'd have no complaints had it played out and they didn't call a foul on any of them.

Alabama makes NCAA Tournament history with free throw futility (247)

Despite everything else, with respectable free throw shooting, Bama could've and should've won it in regulation. 1 more made free throw.

Miniscule compared to 44% from the FT line.

Miniscule compared to 25% 3 PT shooting.

Miniscule compared to 14 Turnovers
.

If you're blaming officials for the loss last night, you're in denial. Sure, there were some calls that would've been beneficial for us had they gone the other way. But as a rule, you can't have stats like the above and count on the officiating going your way in order to win.

No doubt about your line of thinking.

Not to sound like a FOG, but Coach Bryant said it best after the 1965 Orange Bowl when officials denied Joe Willie’s sneak for the go ahead TD. Paraphrasing he said, “don’t let it be close and count on the officials to come to your rescue. Leave no doubt.” Our play yesterday left doubt. Plenty.

That's a great quote that is applicable to all sports. If you leave room for doubt and need officiating to help you, you're already screwed.

yea not why we lost but I'd love to see a screen shot of Gary getting hammered across both arms with under 2 minutes left.

Or, to paraphrase Jeff Foxworthy, if you're blaming officials for a loss, you might be an LSU fan.

Fully agree with what you said.

Not blaming officials, cause they’re never perfect. Just pointing out that those two calls at such a crucial part of the game cost us a minimum of 2 (charge wipes away a basket) and maybe even 4 pts (Gary at the line) in regulation.

Genuinely curious but what is the standard for overturning a call on the floor in CBB? The out of bounds on Petty's shorts didn't seem as clear as some make it out to be. A case could be made that it hit his shorts and a case could be made that there was no way to say it did without guessing.

Hard to play that what if game. If we are only down 2 does Reese hit the 3?
