Today may not be the day, but the Diggs thread had me thinking...
We have guys that ball out in the NFL in the secondary, but no one could turn their head and find the ball on a go route while at Bama. The old saying that throwing the ball leads to one of three outcomes and two of them are bad isn't true anymore. The best play against a Bama defense is an underthrown seam route. Either the receiver makes the play or its defensive pass interference. It's rarely ever a pick. If it's 3rd down and Bama is in man, underthrow a seam route and it's more than likely a first down.
How can Diggs be the second coming of Primetime on Sundays, but we can't get these guys to find the ball on Saturdays? I feel like it's a constant.

Saban coaches the DB and mainly the CB. They are taught to focus on the receiver and not the ball.
Has been going on for 15 seasons and will continue until Saban retires or gives up coaching the CB.
It is what it is. A 175-24 record says it's not the worst coaching philosophy.

I don’t know this for sure, but it seems like we rely on being “in phase” with the receivers versus playing the ball. I understand the thinking. You stick to the receivers and the QB has to 1. Have time to throw 2. Make a near perfect throw, and 3. The ball has to be caught with someone close to you. That’s a lot to ask of college QB’s and receivers. The downside is that kids have gotten better at it starting at the HS level. It still usually takes a career effort by a QB to beat us over 60 minutes.

Diggs was moved to CB by Saban so he was probably learning most of his time here
