If they earned the money, yes.

Should the university withhold the money at a rate equal to the PR damage it costs the University?
The university shouldn't be withholding any money.

If this happens, it would probably absolutely kill any chance of us ever having a good basketball program. We'll never outbid the basketball blue bloods for top players.

Will be interesting to see how this is regulated. California is already talking about taxing this money.
Posted on 10/29/19 at 4:56 pm to Perfect Circle
Well, it's income. Of course it will be taxed.

According to the FBI records we've been getting outbid for player's services for quite some time. And so far the NCAA hasn't been able to chase down non-blueblood bidders like Bruce Pearl and Will Wade. College basketball is a bubbling cesspool of activity.

Well, yeah, but it'll be wide open now.

At least it will be in the open.

The bigger issue for college basketball right now is for the NBA to follow through with their promise to get rid of the one and done. Once these free agents are permanently off the market it should level things out as much as the laws of nature allow. I mean, come on, the barners can do it, it can't be that hard.

I assume that you are ok with the array of possible problems that "opening this door" will probably cause, but I don't believe the majority of its supporters actually realize its consequences.
What if we aren't being naive nor short-sighted and are instead ok with these "consequences"?

Being wrong about what? It's going to ruin college football.
You sound like a LSU fan who celebrates before anything has really happened.

I see this as a big win for Esports which I think will continue to grow.

For all the mouth breathing fools that said (1) it'll never happen, and (2) it's going to ruin the sport - time to go suck some tit and call your pastor - we're marching towards 2020 and no one gives a shite about your outdated values
First, your "it's x year" argument sucks and betrays your smoothbrained, infantile level of commentary.
Second, with rivalries, most traditions, and bowls effectively gone, amateurism was the only thing differentiating college from the NFL. Now it will just be the NFL with worse players.

quote:You mean besides not having a draft and the fact that these are colleges? As long as uniforms still have university names and logos, it will be college football. CFB has changed many times over the years and it will continue to do so.

I don’t understand all the people saying athletes should be just like other students getting paid . Students aren’t walking around getting paid for their likeness , and the ones who are working and getting paid , are working to pay for everything the athletes are getting FREE plus a stipend

If the normal student got access to nutritionist , tutors, meals, lodging , clothes , etc plus a stipend, it would cost them .
Personal trainers , medical staff, surgeons etc too
