Not ready to say that he is the next Wimp Sanderson but I have a good feeling about him... Avery Johnson and Anthony Grants had their moments but I never felt that they were long term solutions. I have a feeling that he is going to do some good things. He has a nice combination of humility and swagger. We may have found a gem.. I can see us making some noise in the near future...
Roll Tide..
That's some real soothsayin' coming off a win over #4 ranked rival.

Someone should write a book on Anthony Grant's 6 long seasons at Alabama. I've watched Dayton off and on for short intervals and there is no semblance to the tractor pull offense he insisted on running in Tuscaloosa. There was no semblance to it at VCU. Did the guy have a nervous breakdown when he put on that Crimson Shirt? It was if he suddenly had this great idea to invent the offensive wheel, by only playing defense.
He's still the only Alabama basketball coach that failed miserably that I thought was a good coach. Dam, that was a tough product to watch, even when we won.

It sure was. I wanted him to succeed here bc I thought / think he was an excellent coach . Can’t explain why we were so bad . Missed on some big recruits though

I think Grant may have been afraid to use the fast paced offense he wanted until he had the players he felt he needed to run it. Without having the players he wanted, he never ran it, which turned off the players he wanted. Thus creating a vicious cycle.
Oats is kind of the opposite. We're running the offense he wants whether we have the players he needs or not.

But I still want to know what convinced Grant to offer Ben Eblen a scholarship.
But I will give him credit for being instrumental in us beating Kentucky.

It's apparent we all saw the same thing. After year 4, I had had it and couldn't even make my way to Coleman to watch a game.
I have to say his Dayton squad looks a lot more like VCU that Alabama.

Grant's failures were 90% recruiting. He wasn't able to sign any good front court players and finished 2nd for countless elite recruits, but never had a backup plan which led him to sign a lot of guys who belonged on a mid-major bench. We often ended up with rosters who had one guy who could get his own shot and zero even remotely decent bigs to help create driving lanes. Thus the "pass the ball around the perimeter until there's 6 seconds left on the clock" offense.

It happens. Just try to keep yourself from posting, at least that’s what I try to do.

He couldn't keep the shooters he had either. When I say shooters, I mean, shooters that could shoot in high school. Cause when they got to the Capstone they were immediately throwing up rocks. It's such a game of rhythm and motion and Grant had outlawed such stuff as an offensive scheme.
So, you are correct. Offensive guys soon showed no interest in what we were trying to invent and others showed their disdain by leaving the program.
If I was privileged to sit down with this guy and have a beer, and I would jump at it, the first question that comes to mind is, What the hell were you thinking? And the second would be why it took him 6 years to see that you have totally alienated players, fans and the basketball gods alike with that tractor-pull offense.
