Metchie's High Stepping. Yay or Nay?

I thought that it was a nice nod to George Teague. It actually worked pretty well the first time he did it, as he was able to sneak by the defenders and get into the endzone.
Not sure how effective it was the second time he did it, I don't really remember tbh.
Also, haven't seen a lot of talk about Metchie in general, but he looked even better than last year, with some added explosiveness. Dude is a beast.

I think it was more of a dead leg type thing than a high step, but either way it seemed to be an actual football move and not a doing it to be cool thing, so I'm on board.
He played a nice game. So did Slade.

Jeudy would do this too.
I think it’s more of a hesitation move to get a read on the defender.

Not everyone can do it quite like Jeudy
I can’t believe we managed to field an elite receiving group again despite losing what we have the past 2 years

What use to be "hot dogging" is now the norm. Times change, harder for US older people to accept, but the only constant thing is change. Roll Tide

It’s not “hot dogging” it’s actually a move to set up a cut back inside. Jeudy was good at this but Tavon Austin perfected this a few years back.

I was really referring more to end zone celebrations, but hey whatever works for todays generation. ROLL TIDE

Pretty much my take as well.
ETA: That Miami defender didn’t take too kindly to the second instance.

Metchie's dead leg isn't nearly effective as Jeudy's
Second time he did it looked more like taunting. Miami player gout up in his face about it.

Yeah he was taunting him but I love it. Want me to stop? Stop me
DBs talk the most anyways and all of that is good for the emotion and energy of the game

Guys...Canadians dont taunt

He was taunting the second time. You could tell the way he was smiling.

For a WR, he blocks like a mad man. Therefore he can step anyway he likes.

I feel like the 80s and 90s were the peak of "hot dogging." Refs used to not flag for it near as much.
and of course Metchie's move is an actual "football move" but I choose to believe that it was a nod to Teague in 92 against Miami. I'd never seen him do it previously.
and comparing to Jeudy, yeah, its similar, but Jeudy never high stepped like that...

Yep - go back and watch old videos of even Alabama under Stallings. There was WAY more high-stepping, dancing, TD moves/dances, etc. than today because it was allowed. It was everywhere - even at a "conservative" program like ours.

I will never understand why people get so butthurt over players taunting or talking shite to each other.

He needs to cut back towards the field some to make it effective. It’s to slow the defender down and then step on the gas before the defender does to get past them. Worked real well the first time but if he never cuts back then teams will probably figure it out pretty easily.
It looks silly when the defender doesn’t fall for it and the runner simply slows down and gets popped
And after a couple of them I distinctly remember thinking, “alright Metchie, just hit angles at full speed and stop this nonsense.”

Yes there was. I was at Alabama when Coach Bryant was there and it didn't happen then. But, times have changed and it is what it is.
