My dude Brent Roberts has moved on from this world. I swam at Bama a tad over 20 years backs. If you've ever read my posts on the team you'd know I do not respect divers. Brent was different though... this guy could pull off the most insanely difficult dives with ease. Not that pussy arse 1 or 3m springboard shite either, I'm talking this guy brought us home an individual ncaa title in 10m platform. 4 stories up, nothing but net.
If you watch enough diving practice you're gonna see someone over/under rotate, open up early, whatever and just light themself up on impact. Makes a hell of a noise in an indoor pool at that height. It'll stop you in your tracks while swimming, and we all look over to see who it is surfacing at the diving area. It was never Brent, dude must've had an internal gyroscope like none other.
So swimming and diving... 2 athletic skills that transfer over to no adult job except coaching, right? Apparently not, dude found himself a job working at sea world as a part of their show. Did that for a while before he heard about Jason Statham... and the fact he was a diver. Brent transitioned on to live action stunt man at Universal Studios. Apparently only I acquired a useless skill set in my countless hours of training.
One of the best teammates you could have asked for. Always smiling and happy... and dominating the competition. 4 time all American, 2 time SEC diver of the year, first SEC diver to win the 10m at NCAAs. Definitely the GOAT Bama diver. Thought y'all deserved to hear about him.

What year did he get to Bama? I remember meeting a diver through a couple of friends I had on the swim team around 95 or 96. He had just arrived and they were all hyping the heck out of him.
Hate to hear of his passing.

I believe 96 was his freshman year. Made me laugh and smile to picture someone hyping a diver... but it was warranted. I do appreciate the story.

Great loss for Bama Nation. I’m sorry for your personal loss, Moar. If you don’t mind me asking, he couldn’t have been very old, what happened?

My condolences to you, but thanks for the story. Sounds like Brent was a great fellow and motivated too.

As of now, it's undetermined. Went to bed complaining of back pain, didn't wake up. Apparently it happened the 12th, and we all just found out last night. And he was 42, has a surviving twin brother plus their mom is definitely still around.
