Personally, I think he may be a good fit as a 3-4 Multiple guy.
Here's a good write up on his schemes.

He would love to learn some stuff from Saban. Looks better on a resumè than Coach O

It would be good move because his defense is very aggressive with blitzes. With some tweaks here and there, it has a chance of being one of the effective defense under Saban and Aranda.

I know that one of the BOL insider guys said it's been discussed but I just don't buy it.

If Aranda leaves LSU for Bama I think he's leaving to put himself in the market to be a head coach. If he leaves LSU to be a head coach I think he may have to take a job at a smaller school and work his way back up to a head coaching job at LSU. But, if he comes to Bama he can go straight into a big-time job. Basically, I think Aranda has maxed out at LSU. He's the head coach of the defense at LSU. And, his excellent coaching is propping up a guy he can run circles around.

I don't think this is something that will happen.

I don't think it happens either but if it does I won't be surprised.

I think there's a chance Saban may want some experience after the Tosh.0 experiment

quote:
Aranda is in the first season of a contract that expires in March 2022, and his buyout would be around $3.25 million if he became a defensive coordinator at another Southeastern Conference, and it would be around $1.2 million if he became a defensive coordinator at a non SEC school outside a 500-mile radius of LSU.
Plus he makes $2.5 million a year, no way we are paying LSU $3.25

That's chump change dude...this defensive staff needs some experience.

I would give up a lot if this would happen. Love our boys, but our defense needs an overhaul.

There are a few guys who have their "dream" or "perfect" coordinator situations, and wouldn't move to be a coordinator anywhere else - Aranda and Venables are in that small group.
Both are super highly paid, successful, viewed as nearly gods where they are, and are happy. Aranda ain't coming here.
But I'm happier with Tosh than most.

So, let's "suppose" for a moment.
Aranda comes to Bama (salary would need to be about $3m)
Tosh would have to leave, no way he would stay with a new DC making HC $ and him not close)
and the old axiom of when 2 are in charge No One is in charge.
Next there is the recruiting part, Tosh is best recruiter and no where does one see "that Aranda, he is a top notch recruiter"
What does this kind of $$ do to the rest of the staff?
While the overhaul of last year's Coaching staff paid great dividends in the 2018 recruiting class, there were obvious shortfalls in the coaching up of the team.
Would be nice to find some stability in a staff and go for a few years with little turn over (but, now I think this is more of a fantasy)

Honestly, keep Tosh. There was a lot of roster turnover this year. See what happens, and if it doesn’t work, back up the flatbed of cash to Venables, Aranda, or Shoop.

I would love this move but Ihave to see it to believe it. Pete Golding turned down almost 2 million to stay here...him and Tosh aren’t leaving unless it’s by their choice

What if Aranda was contacted not for the DC position but for the command chair?
The rumor goes that Saban has very quietly let the people that needed to know that he’s ready to move on. Some say to the NFL again, some say to Lake Lanier. The people in the know then went to Dabo and asked him to come home which he politely declined. After some discussion, it was determined that Pruitt hasn’t proven enough yet at UT and Smart and Jimbo are not viable options. Bama has always preferred a defensive minded coach. The two best out there that appear ready to take the next step are Venables and Aranda. Venables has some type of baggage from his past that gives everyone cold feet so feelers have gone out to Aranda. It would strike a blow to LSU and give us a promising looking new head coach.
Just rumors and I’m not even confident in the quality of the sauces but I have heard some folks reading between the lines and coming up with this theory. It’s not beyond the realm of possibility. Unlikely, yes. Impossible, no.

Aranda wouldn't upset me if his first hc gig goes well. If we can't pull dabo we aren't offering enough.

not necessarily, despite what some people think, there are people that are perfectly happy and content right where they are.
