We don't suck. I think we have a problem with inexperience + poor management from Golding. Barmore under Kirby and Pruitt would see the field a whole lot more - much like Dareus, Payne, A'Shawn, and Allen did. The team also never plays zone, which is more of a Saban thing than anything. Teams know Alabama DBs never turn their head and are susceptible to a missed assignment, which leads to blown coverage and penalties.

Saying this defense "sucks" is too strong. They certainly aren't very good and are one of the 3 worst defenses in the Saban era at best. We haven't even played many good offenses, so our defensive stats are propped up by playing shitty teams.

Can’t argue with that.

I agree especially with Golden and his play calling. If you can get a guy like J Jennings with one on one coverage he will catch the ball more times then not. I saw several times we would run a safety blitz and gave it away and their QB(JQ) saw it and exploited it. Leaving no safety over the top to help cover.

Maybe the inexperience feeds into that but it seems our play calling on D is easy to predict.

Instead of an attack, how about refute what he said? He said we are average and considering we are ranked in the 30's and around seventh in the conference he is right bro

How about Connelly's SP+, advanced metric, defensive rankings which take opponent, etc. into account. Easily the best analytical tool. Raw data without context is not worth much. Is that good enough for you?

Well Alabama is ranked #7 in the country in defense.

Your memory of Bama's past defenses is not very good. They were skewed by a ball dominant O and much poorer SEC offenses. Whenever Alabama played a good offense, though still very good, Bama's D was not nearly as "smothering". Having said that, this D is not as good as most in the past, but it is not as you characterize it - "average". You and a some others have panicked and lost your analytical balance.

You forget that AU and Nick Marshall put 600+ plus yards, OM 500 yards and over 40 points a couple of years in 15 & 16, OSU ran through Bama like paper mache, Clemson vs the "greatest D of all time" in 2016, also 2015, 2018, etc. I could go on... This is not a great defense but it's not what you portray, even relative to past Bama D's. D's in general are nothing like they were just a couple of years ago.

Much of the Bama fan base has lost its collective mind and is running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

I cut the cord, so I had to listened to Eli and Yohn Parker and read the meltdown on here.
I yust watched a replay, and, mon, it was not nearly as bad as I had though. The defense did a pretty good yob against the run - outside of the one to begin the second half. Other than that, there was a well thrown back shoulder pass, a chintcy flag here or there, and a young linebacker got out of position against a receiver. On one play we had good pressure and Guarrantano sort of chucked the ball off of his back foot while falling down and somehow found his mon.
Some in the secondary did not have their best game. However, our guys weren’t running around and bouncing into each other like players on an electric football board while Tennessee’s quarterback couldn’t hit a stationary target 30 yard away - like some folks on the board made it seem.

We held up well on the LOS and stuffed a number of runs and had tackles for loss. We had a number qb pressures and sacks. Lewis was not absent at all. He was a force.

The young linebackers do still need to improve. We played a lot of young d-linemon and they held up pretty well. We still need to watch the tendency to yump off-sides on a hard count clap. That one kills me.

Will we get lit-up by a good offensive coordinator with skill players? Well, we’ve had much better and more seasoned defenses get absolutely
lit up too. Anyone remember having to outscore ole miss a few years ago? How about when two of our greatest defenses ever couldn’t stop Dejuan Watson to save their lives. Anyone remember ”Yohny Football” forcing us to outscore him? Yeah. Even our best defenses have had to depend on offense at times. Such is the way college football rolls these days. Yust keep these things in perspective, mon.
