Need leaders on our defense. People who can fire up everybody during crunch time.
We mostly seem confused and disorganized on crucial downs.
How do you keep giving up 3rd and long every time to team like 10rC?
Surtain to me has been a disappointment so far. For a 5-star who started as a Freshman he doesn't seem to have progressed. At times he seems to be disinterested and listless, when he should be fired up and leading the charge.
Need a Ro,a Reuben,Ragland,Moseley,Hightower,Allen to emerge.

This is where the loss of Dylan Moses hurts the most.

Fortunately, you are clueless.

Diggs is still letting receivers get behind him when there is no safety help over the top.
We never get the calls on 50/50 balls, on offense or defense.

He luckily made the play on a ball he was beat on I was surprised honestly. He is still holding his own pretty well but gets burned time to time. A good QB is going to hurt us if we can’t get to him.

Instead of an attack, how about refute what he said? He said we are average and considering we are ranked in the 30's and around seventh in the conference he is right bro.
This defense is terrible relative to the standard we are measured against here at Alabama. No denying it.

Our 2019 Defense is average at best.
When we finally play an elite offense with a confident QB we may need 40+ to win the game.
That game is 20 days away & our starting QB needs the tune up scrimmage next week to stay in rythem but not gonna happen.

We knew coming in the defense was not great we just needed them to be average with Tua at the helm. If Tua is not able to perform in the big game we will not win those big games.
10 years ago we had the defense that Mac Jones could carry us to the NC.

Our right side of the DL is getting destroyed. I guess it's expected when we have true freshman on that side.
As coaches they can't let this happen against LSU. My hope is Ray comes back, and we can rotate him in.
I think Pruitt eluded to that as well on the goal line fumble, saying they were having there way running.
I am trying to find a solution scheme wise for it and I don't have one. If any of you do please share.

Our defense played much tougher after Tua's injury. That sense of urgency and fear of getting beat whent way up after the injury. It was pressure that put their QB out of the game and it was pressure that gave us the big turnover for the score. Golding just needs to, at least, find the pressure points with this defense and let no QB be comfortable in the pocket. We do that and we've done pretty much what we can with this year's model. We are an offensive team and we are designed to outscore the opposition. When we get Tua back, hopefully by the time the purple people enter BDS, we will be good enough to get the job done.

One solution is to start Barmore at RDE over our true freshmen who are getting pushed around. Barmore is a pass rushing nightmare but is also big enough to hold up in the run game too. That move alone would help tremendously.

I definitely saw some of this. Tua and the offense has been a security blanket.

Agree here. Those defensive guys know that our offense is gonna score on damn near every drive so they know they don't have to win the game and if they give up a big play it won't cost us the game. I do believe they can and should play better.

I kinda feel like if there is going to be a silver lining coming from this it is the change in offensive habits in practice. I think a healthy running game will be worked on in ernest this week. That will help our Ds fundamentals and who knows, maybe a sense of new pride that the balance could very well reside on that side of the ball.

Our defense is Putrid to say otherwise is being lead by blind loyalty. We will have to score 60+ to beat LSU.

I think we get Ray back by LSU and a front of Ray Barmore and Davis along with Lewis and Jennings on the edge should be pretty solid.

Fwb probably not. The defense was already there. He likely told them he going over top instead of bottom.

The problem is playing with a sense of urgency against UT and LSU is day and night. Against UT is really does not matter who is QB but against LSU, AU, and beyond this D will need our offense to play better then just do enough to win like yesterday.

it's weird. on first and second down we attack fairly well. but every third down, regardless of distance to go, we go into a prevent defense type thing. that only accomplishes one thing, automatic first down.
my biggest concern/disappointment isn't the freshmen. it's diggs and surtain looking like they've never played their positions before.

Who thinks we suck on defense?
1. Youth is an excuse, to a certain point, especially with the linebackers. However, seven games in, the development is questionable. Coupled with the fact that the linebackers regressed last year, time to connect the dots and find the common denominator. Say what you will about Wilson, but the Mack we saw last year was not anywhere close to the one we saw his first two years on campus.
2. The playcalling. Watching a Golding defense makes me feel as if sometimes I'm watching a kid with an X-box controller call defensive plays. The situational calls are, at times, downright awful - and not because they don't work. Last night the defensive line was stunting in short yardage situations, again. Go back to the championship game in January. Clemson is on the goal line and Bama's defensive line stunts themselves out of the play, and Mack goes full throttle through the wrong gap. Clemson waltzes into the endzone. That should tell you all you need to know about who was calling the plays at the end of the year, because the same bad, bad calls are still being made.
