Wishbone Era:

Jack O'Rear - Good QB from Tarrant in B'ham.

Robert (Winchester Rifle) Fraley - Won a huge game vs Tennessee as Todd and Gary Rutledge were hurt and standing on the sidelines.

Kevin Jones

Paul Fields from Gardendale.
Actually took 8 pallbearers to carry coach Bryant to his resting spot.
The pallbearers were defensive backs Jeremiah Castille, Jerrell Sprinkle, and Tommy Wilcox; quarterbacks Paul Fields and Walter Lewis; linebacker Eddie Lowe; offensive tackle Mike McQueen, offensive tackle, and split end Darryl White.

Perry Cuda.

Can we count players like Mark Ingram, who ran the wildcat so often?

David Palmer might have been the best ever at that

I think Ingram had more snaps at QB than Barnett. I knew Barnett would not last when I saw his face before the USC game, and I thought Bama would be in serious trouble when Hurts fumbled his first snap that game. Things have a way of working out.

My parents just moved in 2 doors down from him. Really nice guy. Has a jawline that could cut diamond, lol. Still looks like he could play as well.

I think we've had 5-6 Qb's throw for under or right around 100 yards in our national championship wins which is pretty amazing.

I looked it up at one point but can't recall of them.

(edited below)
'46 Gilmer (11 completions, 59 yards)
'61 Trammel vs. Ark (4-10, 20 yards)
'78 Rutledge vs. OSU (8-11, 109 yards) - DID NOT WIN IT
'79 Rutledge vs. Penn St (8-15, 91 yards)
'80 Shealy vs. Ark (4-7, 70 yards) - FORGOT THIS ONE
'92 Barker vs. Miami (4-13, 18 yards)
'09 McElroy vs. Texas (6-11, 58 yards)

^^^^^ that's a combined 425 yards in 7 games.

Did I miss one?

The South Carolina game where he took every snap on that drive was epic.

That period between Zow and Croyle was brutal. Holy hell.

Only if he started a game from the wildcat. I can't recall if he ever did.

No NC that season.

But you left off Steadman Shealy vs Arkansas for the 1979 NC. He was 4/7 with two INT's and 70 yards.

Jeff Rutledge was struggling in the 79 natty vs Penn State.

Ala.: Rutledge 8-15-2, 91 yards, 1 TD

In the wishbone, it was actually, not always, that big of a deal.

lol, my first thought when i seen his name. my uncle was jacked sky high over this kid transferring to bama. every time i seen him, he couldnt wait to see this kid play.

to this day, theres a special place in my memories for the qb's of the 70's. i started school in '69, they were the hero's of my youth
