Alabama went 7-23 in the SEC

- 18 of our 30 conference games were against teams that are in a Super Regional (5-14)

- 24 of 30 were against teams that finished #1 or #2 in a regional (6-19)

- 27 of our 30 games were against teams that made the NCAAT (6-22)

Baby steps for Bohannon. We should have made the SECT, but was given a pretty tough schedule.

Am I wrong to be concerned that we haven't had anyone named to the All Freshman team either of the last two years?

No. I'm worried about our recruiting.

I don't see it getting any better anytime soon. Not much faith in coach Bo. Half those losses were blow outs. Improvements not showing up in any area. 2 full years and not any better than before. I hope he proves me wrong.

I'm a little worried too, to be honest. Our recruiting is still pretty clearly in the bottom 1/3 of the SEC.

My hope is really just that we will finally stabilize as a roster and program next year and then build up from there, but I'd be lying if I didn't note that I'm a little leery.

A reminder of the mid-seventies, when Hayden Riley rarely ventured beyond Tuscaloosa High School and Tuscaloosa County High School.

I think BB is beating the bushes, I'm just not sure we're going to turn the tide in-state and certainly not out of state on a consistent basis until we get back to being competitive in the league (and nationally).

Our Classes (per Perfect Game) - Post Draft

2016 - #50 Overall, #14 SEC, 0 Top 100 players

2017 - #85 Overall, #14 SEC, 0 Top 100 players

2018 - #23 Overall, #11 SEC, 1 Top 100 Player (Tyler Ras)

2019 - #22 Overall, #9 SEC, 2 Top 100 Players (#2 CJ Abrams who will be a Top 10 pick and will never step foot on campus)

2020 - #33 Overall, #13 SEC, 0 Top 100 Players

2016-2017 were just disasters in terms of recruiting. We had a Sun Belt roster for the last 2-3 years.

Our talent next year + experience should at least be back to a point where we can compete, but we will have less talent than most of the league and basically everyone in our division. Again.

I posted this earlier on the rant but it’s insightful and Bo explains a lot of the recruiting flaws and concerns:

LINK

quote:

“You can’t get your butt kicked in recruiting for three or four years and expect it to get fixed in one cycle,” Bohannon said. “Not in the SEC West.”

quote:

Another factor, as Bohannon noted, is baseball players (like softball players) tend to make their college decisions early.

“A lot of players already know where they are going to (college) by the time they are in the 10th grade,”he said. “So you have to have done the groundwork.”

Very good stuff. He's doing what he should be, explaining why we are where we are without throwing guys under the bus or making excuses. We had the #14 best roster in the SEC this season. That's because we had 2 straight seasons where we recruited at the #14 best level, one of which was so historically bad we finished behind Alabama State.

It's going to take 2-3 years to get good players in, have them get experience and create a full roster that looks, plays and feels like they can play in the SEC. That's just the nature of what he took over.

That’s a really good piece on the current state of things.

Bama commit was a high pick so he must be getting interest from some top players

Yep - and really honest quotes from BB too.

I mean the numbers tell the tale. Our talent level this year is significantly worse than everyone else in our division and really everyone else in the entire league. By far. It's getting closer, so hopefully that leads to more conference wins.
