Just one playoff run without a lame duck coordinator

Please. Can we have one playoff run without one of our coordinators getting poached and trying to coach with one foot out the door? Looking at you Sark.

Why does nobody try and take from Dabo? I’d figure Venables and Tony Elliot would be getting calls all the time

Have I missed something? Is Sark leaving or just speculation. Either way I agree. I like the continuity myself. I’ve always read that Venables is happy doing what he is doing. Not really wanting to be a head coach.

Just board rumors he's high on the cow college's candidate list.

Sexton doing work as usual....another new Range Rover headed his way

There is something fishy about that situation at Clemson.

A....freaking....men!!!
Not only do we have to endure a SEC schedule, but Saban has to juggle staffing issues with preparing for the playoff.
Meanwhile Clemson, which is right there with us as one of the strongest programs in the country, seems to never have to deal with any kind of staff issues. Kind of remarkable how they’ve had such little turnover over the years.

Well, Clemson did lose Jeff Scott last year to USF. Venables is pretty clearly just Mickey Andrews at this point - he's not going anywhere.
And the OC that is left, Elliot, is just frankly not that good. Their offense is vanilla as hell, now. They have elite skill dudes running it, so when it clicks it clicks, but they look clunky as hell WAY too often to have that many dudes.
And past that, I mean, look at the rest of their assistants. They're guys whose names you recognize from being rotating coaches in the SEC for the 90s/2000s and/or dudes that have been with Dabo since he took the job/played with him at Alabama.
- Danny Pearman (ST/TE) (55 yrs, Clemson grad, been there since 2009)
- Brandon Streeter (QB) (43 yrs, Clemson grad, been there since 2014, before that 1AA)
- Todd Bates (DL) (Alabama grad, came from Jax St)
- Robbie Caldwell (OL) (66 yrs, came from Vandy, been there since 2011)
- Mickey Conn (S) (Alabama grad & Dabo teammate, came from Grayson HS)
- Tyler Grisham (WR) (Clemson grad from Hoover, been at Clemson since he got cut from the NFL, played for Dabo)
- Lemanski Hall (DE) (Alabama grad & Dabo teammate, came to Clemson from HS)
- Mike Reed (CB) (BC Grad, came from NC State in 2013)
So, really the ONLY guys on that staff who aren't Bama guys or Clemson grads are Mike Reed and Robbie Caldwell.
Dabo identified guys who weren't commodities and brought them in. Add to it they have allegiance to him from the past or Clemson from the past (or both), plus the fact that it probably is a pretty relatively good place to work.........and it's a recipe for sticking around.

This right here (after watching lsu crumble under the pressure this year) just makes what Bama has done these past years even more impressive. As if that was possible.

Yeah, but one coordinator over the course of 5-6 years is pretty remarkable. You’d think mid-level programs would be poaching position coaches left and right to be coordinators. That doesn’t seem to be the case.
It would be really nice to not have to worry about any of that stuff for just one year.

How weird would it be to see a Auburn soon-to-be head coach, actually coaching at Alabama (in the playoffs) but recruiting for Auburn?
I can't see Sark doing something like that to Saban.

One year without injuries would be great as well.
Imo if we had Eddie Jackson in 2016 we win it all. And if we dont have all the injuries last year we are playing in the playoff.

And nothing more. Why would he not be on top of the list for many teams? If not why would we want him? But being on the top of the list for another team does not equate to him leaving.
How many times has Saban been the top candidate for another HC job?

I think it may be the same for Sark now as well.

Eddie Jackson, Bo Scarbrough, SDH and that game isn't even close.

They targeted Cristobal, Steele, and Freeze.
Boosters balked on Freeze, Cristobal likely isn't leaving Oregon, and Steele is leveraging his position with influential folk on the plains = last I heard Steele was in the lead for the job.

Isn't Venables kids currently playing for Clemson? I thought i read somewhere that he isn't going anywhere until they grad.

With the early signing day coaches that take another job before playoffs won’t have to spend as much time recruiting for the new team. That was the major problem
And yes Venables has 2 sons at Clemson. It’s a good bet he will be more likely to accept a head coach job after their departure

His youngest son is a freshman. I imagine Venables at least sticks around his entire career. He would be like 53 at that point. His chance to be a HC might have sailed at that point.
