Does anybody else think he was genuinely happy and somewhat relieved. It doesn't diminish his competitive spirit in my view one bit. I just think he knew he couldn't do what was gonna be needed to win this game at this stage in his career. I think he was honestly happy at bring a champion and knew he had played a major role. Kudos to Jalen and his team first attitude!

I think he was genuinely happy to win but probably had to hide the pain of being sit. I mean nobody can be happy wit that.

Maybe not but I think he could've just realized that the task ahead was just to Big for him right now and he didn't want to be saddled with a Fran Tarkenton like legacy. Like in "Dirty Harry: A man's got to know his limitations". He's got time to improve.

Happy yes but Jalen is a competitor and would have loved nothing more than for him to be able to have done what Tua did. I was the same kind of player that Jalen was. I was a solid ball player, I always did my job, played hard, never quit and had a great attitude. Problem was I was surrounded by guys that went on to play college ball and 3 of the 18 played professional baseball. Any other team and I might have been one of their top ten on the team but I wasn't on this team so I played my role and took advantage of every opportunity I had. Started a few games, lettered and won a state championship. In the end I got the same state ring they did but I was not as good as them.

He was happy we won the national championship. I'm sure he had lots of emotions flowing but as anyone who has screwed up and even been yanked in a big game knows, in the end your base emotions are on your team winning. The rest comes later.

Once he retreated to the locker room/bus/hotel/campus I'm guessing he was pretty devastated and maybe even slightly embarrassed for how we won the national championship (not saying he should or shouldn't be, but saying I'm guessing he was).

He's a competitor. Competitors would be happy with the team performance but stung by having to be yanked and seeing someone else get it done where you couldn't/didn't.

I don't know. He has a very different and cool personality, but it looked he was putting on a "brave face" after the game. Like someone that was invited to the Heisman trophy ceremony, expecting to win, but not getting it.

He was definitely graceful and poised, but I thought I could see some pain in his eyes.

No way he was thinking I'm glad they took men out I couldn't get the job done.

i think his reaction was genuine. i also seen his demeanor at the celebration, sitting there with his fellow team mates cutting up having a good time. i do believe it was all as real as it gets. do i think hes doing some soul searching? absolutely.

Something to consider when looking at Jalen's reaction: He has never won a championship before at any level (not counting the SEC title). I have no doubt his jubilation was genuine.

I believe you're correct in that soul searching.....I expect him to continue that journey through spring drills and by the end of this school year he will have a firm plan. Best of luck to him. He is a solid citizen .

For real? Gee. I could comment on that but a few people would stroke out.

And KeyTide, no offense but I doubt Jalen will become another Fran Tarkenton, but if he did, I guess that would be a really good thing.

I would say mixed emotions! Happy to win the Natty but hurting deep inside knowing he couldn't see it through to the end. Really had to sting after having us on the verge last season too! A truly classy young man though and shows that he has been raised right. He didn't sulk or pout and was the consummate teammate when his team needed him to be.

I remember him making that statement last year in an interview before the Clemson game.

Its not that uncommon for star players to never have won a championship in middle school or high school. Its not really an indictment on Jalen IMO.

Because it'd be asinine. If not winning a HS State (in Texas) or College National Title is some sort of read the tea leaves proof you suck then a whole helluva lot guys suck.

You see, George. This is how a simple observation becomes a long argument about something you claim you don't want to read.

Take your own advice and just leave it alone occasionally.

I think he may have been relieved. His confidence was gone by the end of this season. He was honestly throwing worse at the end of this year than during parts of his freshmen season. I don't think that's cause he regressed. I think his confidence had been shot.

When he underthrew Cal so bad against Clemson, he tapped his chest and looked down. It didn't look like the same on to the next play mentality he's had.

I've always known Jalen to be a composed, confident guy, but it would be going through anybody's head that this would be 2 straight offseasons he would largely be blamed for a title loss. From what we've been told, the OC and all the WRs wanted Tua in. If true, I'm sure Jalen knew that too.

Give it fricking rest man. I defended the Tua crowd on here all year because I wanted Tua to play, and I think people should be able to say pretty much what they want on a message board.

Get outta here with this passive aggressive bullshite though. Lots of great players haven't won titles. Jalen not winning a Jr High title isn't why he's worse than Tua.

If you're gonna mention it, actually make the comment. Don't be a fricking pussy, and just point it out (essentially comment on it) then say you're not gonna comment.

I think I'll pass this time because George is a reasonable fellow most of the time, so I'm going to take his initiative.
