Just going through some sports articles this morning and it's kinda funny to read about our newest turf celebrity, Najee Harris. But Bama can't run the ball. That's what the human sirens are writing about. And I just hope some of our longtime Bama fans don't do something desperate and hurt themselves before we get to the playoffs.

I use to wonder how Tom Brady continued to beat all those good defenses with a bunch of average guys masquerading as running backs. Then game after game, and now, decade after decade, it got apparent. All the Wes Welker, Julian Elderman, Troy Browns were New England's rushing attack. And I'm still waiting for the Denver Broncos, and Pittsburg Steelers of the NFL to shut those little fellows down by the way. I hear that we too are running a lot of those New England offensive concepts. I believe, but does anyone else out there in ESPN land?

Tua is special and I see a lot of short, high percentage, ball control type stuff in our offensive aerial attack. And while everyone in the college football world is still waiting for LSU to get to Tuscaloosa to expose our lack of running game. Keep waiting.

Najee Harris, 7 rushes for 36 yards. But that's just not what everyone is talking and writing about today. Is it?

The Montana 49ers believed that certain types of passes were basically handoffs so I see where you are coming from. Our wide receivers are insane and Tua's accuracy is his best attribute. We also aren't relying on big plays nearly as much

If we can prove to be more efficient in the redzone, im all in on this offense. But its hard signing 5-star runningbacks only to be used like Danny Woodhead and James White

Yeah, the red zone is all about the payoff. There's still the possibility that when defenses pick the other poison, that won't be Woodhead and White running downhill at them.

From an RBR article about the SC game:

quote:

Now for the good news: this offense is otherworldly. After a couple of early lapses in communication against stunts, the offensive line kept Tua Tagovailoa clean for the vast majority of the afternoon. All he did was complete 78% of his 36 throws for 444 yards and five touchdowns. As Saban noted in the postgame press conference, South Carolina was intent on attacking the run game with safeties on the RPOs, so Tua threw the ball behind them. People stomping their feet about the run game still don’t seem to grasp that the short pass is an extension of it. In practice, what is the difference in handing Najee Harris the ball or flipping it to him a couple of yards away? Harris and Brian Robinson combined for 193 total yards on 22 touches. If that isn’t elite production, folks, then I don’t know what is. There are ways to control the football that don’t involve pounding it between the tackles.

With as accurate as Tua is, I'm okay with not beating our heads against a wall and, instead, just flipping the ball right over the wall. Now IF another team does adjust and take away those short passes by dropping players from the front seven into coverage then we HAVE to be able to punish them with the traditional ground game. But until they do it, just throw it where they aren't and be off to the races.

We ran a lot of RPOs vs S Car. They were crowding the box so Tua is going to pass it as he is supposed to. There were several plays I noticed where if Tua handed it to Najee instead he would have had a nice gain but Tua instead hits the slant for 15-20 yds.

We have to commit to the run if we want to improve there. 7 carries for our starting RB just isn’t enough.

does it matter if that 5 star running back gets a 40 yard gain because he ran it through the line or because he got a 5 yard pass and took it the rest? I agree with the op. If the opposing defense is lined up to stop a run up the middle, don't go right at it, go around. If they change what they are doing to stop you, change what you are doing. We have the offensive players to adapt. Every one of our plays these days has a pass option, and tua can read this stuff now, so if the defense we are playing is content to let us pass all over them let's do that till they stop us. Our Oline is clearly still a run blocking work in progress, will probably improve in that regard when brown becomes available again, so let's pass to open up the run game. We have a maybe#1 overall player at QB and 4 receivers that will go in the 1st 2 rounds of their respective drafts, and nobody can cover all those, a couple serviceable yes, and rbs that are good receivers such as najee
