It really sucks that our season is practically over.

Not making the SEC title game and knowing the team will probably not care about whichever bowl game we make sucks when I am used to going to Atlanta in December and then traveling to a playoff game. I know I sound spoiled and entitled but its because I am spoiled.

It would be easier to stomach if we played to our potential and we did our best. The injuries plays the biggest part in my disappointment but poor play by a still talented defense and lackadaisical preparation by the staff is a close second because we still could have and probably should have ran the table on our way to a sixth straight playoff appearance.

The only way I could feel worse is if we have a few guys skip the bowl game like several other players have done in recent years. I haven't and won't talk down about the team and staff but replacing our DC and finishing off strong in recruiting will lift my spirits going into the new year. Roll Tide.

I think we'll see quite a few guys do that.

Spoiled is a relative term but Bama fans have sure had it our way in the past decade. It seemed like half of LSU's team was either hurt or sitting out for their bowl game with UCF last season. Plenty of teams are seeing the same participation and lack of enthusiasm from players and fans alike. I suspect this is why so many want to go to the expanded playoffs.

Bowls are nothing more than an extra road game these days and it has been long predicted that the playoffs would render the bowls impotent. For teams like Alabama, that has never been out of the playoffs in its existence, just the thought of it is downright boring.

I'm sure the majority feel the same way.

It is what it is. We had to miss the playoffs at some point, and it took some of our best players having season ending injuries for it to happen. And to be honest, starting the season off with Duke, and not playing a good team until the 9th game of the season, this whole season just seemed off from the start.

I will just take this as an opportunity to focus my attention on other things, and use my time more wisely this December besides reading and watching playoff stuff, and when the bowl game comes around, I'll be thankful to have 1 more Alabama game to watch.

I dunno...I kinda get the feeling that we come out and hammer whomever we play to make a statement, kinda like we did Michigan State after the 2010 season. In past seasons we were undermotivated for a bowl, we just missed the play-offs and were down. This year, we weren't that close to making the play-offs and the media is talking about how the dynasty is over...hopefully, this'll light a fire under our butts...

While I expect this, I think it'd be good to see the new guys who'll fill their shoes; hoping they'll be fired up to show what they can do.

Oh you’re going to feel worse then. Probably going to be more than a “few.” They’ve earned that though. Honestly it’s probably best to let the young guys who are going to be here next year get some game reps anyway.

As others have said, if that's where you're setting the bar, expect for things to get worse before they get better. Some dudes are likely to skip the bowl and there are likely to be some recruiting frustrations as well (like, kids we and the staff really want going to our rivals and missing out on good players by waiting too long on other players). The Golding is thinking of leaving rumors sound kind of unlikely to me too, but you never know I guess.

I am honestly asking, how common has this been with 1st round players? Obviously some of the bigger name players over the players over the past 5 years have made the headlines, but is this really to be expected? Several of our players sitting?

I think at least 4 declare early, at most 8...wouldn't be shocked to see 7 declare on offense (Tua, Jeudy, Ruggs, Smith, Harris, Leatherwood, Wills) and 1 (McKinney) on defense. A lot depends on their draft grades; while I've seen mocks where all of the above except Harris have gone first round, I've also seen others where only about 4 did...

It’s becoming more and more common every year. Last year certainly started to open the floodgates, we may just not have taken notice being in the playoff every year. Frankly within the next couple of years I’d expect players that’ll be drafted in the first few rounds of the draft sitting out their bowl games will be the norm (and I’m obviously talking about nationally, not just us).
