It appears as if Tua can run the ball.

He is no Jalen Hurts but nobody comes close to Hurts on the ground. Tua looked good running last week. He looked better than I thought he would. Good to know that if anything happens to Jalen (knocks on wood) we could run the same exact offense.

#1 Dual Threat QB in his class. Ran the ball really well in HS. I assumed he could run.

I think the play-calling would be substantially different if Tua had to start for some reason. The basic offensive philosophy might not change much but the play-calling would and should be pretty different.

I thought he clocked a 4.7 forty during spring testing. He looked faster than that from what I saw. Barnett was a 5 star dual threat that couldn't run it. Maybe I was thinking about him.

I think it would eventually open up more. With Tua being a better passer, I can see Daboll and Saban mixing things up once they get comfortable with Tua being the man

Yeah he’s a 4.7/4.8 guy. Not gonna burn you but enough to help in some instances.

I wonder if Daboll will ever imploy the jump pass.

I wonder if Tua is capable of being on someone like Johnny Manziel 's level as far as being a runner. Its hard to gauge at this point, but I like what I have seen so far.

Tua is quick. I know many on the board hate this sentiment, but Tua would open up this offense so much more

He's shown to be mobile enough to make things happen and be a threat to keep on the read in order to keep the d honest if needed.

Crazy thing about Jalen is that he is really fast but doesn't really look like it all to me. It's not like he's a real long strider or anything either. It must be that there is not a lot of extra motion to him. Head doesn't seem to bob, almost like he's not trying, but he's blowing by linebackers and if db's don't take a good angle, blowing by them too.

Weirdest looking thing to me.

Jalen is such a smooth runner. I don't think the offense would be exactly the same, but it would be close. More passes with Tua, and Jalen favors more runs. I don't think Tua would lead the team in rushing.

Probably not, Johnny ran a 4.68 at the combine. Tua would have to really train to drop down to a legit 4.6 territory. I’ve seen Tua and Hurts run together, Hurts is faster out right.

The bottom line is Tua is fast enough to be a legitimate running threat up to about 20 yards at a time, and he has the deadliest arm in the SEC.

Jalen is the fastest running QB in the SEC

Maybe, maybe not. Probably. What he is elite at is reading/setting up his blocks. This year he knows when to fight for yards, and is strong enough to get them, while knowing when it's over and getting down to protect himself and the ball.

Either way I think Alabama is pretty lucky to have this QB situation right now. Hope it continues to work out in the following years.

Literally, the exact opposite would be true. Granted, is Tua a better passer than Hurts was as a freshman? Absolutely.

But as our Offense is currently constructed, Hurts can do things that Tua cannot - the opposite it not true. There is nothing that Tua can do that Hurts cannot. Hurts can read the defense and make all the throws.

And so, by taking away the same type of run threat that Hurts brings to the table, you'd literally be giving the opposing defensive coordinator less to prepare for, thereby making your offense much less "open", as you put it.

Don't get me wrong. Tua can play, but Hurts is maybe the best weapon in CFB currently. Sure, to a certain - slow - part of Bama's fanbase, the back-up QB has always been the most popular player on the roster and easily the most talnted. (Which is of course why so many of Bama's backup QBs are in the CFB Hall of Fame.)

Seriously, any Bama fan clamoring for the back-up QB in this season at this moment should be studied by top medical scientists, because that person obviously has some sort of brain parasite or soon-to-be-discovered walking neuropathy.
