Is there any doubt at this point that Kirby was honeypotting with Mims?

Remember how weird it was that we kept being mentioned when we all knew he wasn't coming and it didn't make any sense? We all thought it was just to try and get a recruiting win, but now that Mims and Tennessee seems to be a NCAA thing, is there any doubt that it was much more than that?
Saban and Co. were smart enough to smell it out, but obviously Pruitt and his folks were both desperate enough and dumb enough to dive right in.

Is there no low Kirby won't stoop to?

- 5 star offensive tackle Amarius Mims was a big recruiting battle in this current cycle
- Alabama and Georgia were the 2 main competitors at the beginning. Alabama then securred commitments from the #1 and #2 tackles in the country, and most assumed this meant Alabama was out of it for Mims.
- Mims kept mentioning Alabama as a "serious contender" and feeding information to recruitng website writers to "watch out for Alabama". Everyone thought it was laughable and assumed it was just Kirby trying to manufacture a big recruiting "win".
- Then, late in the process, Alabama fell out and Tennessee jumped right in. The last 3-4 weeks the talk was "Tennessee is neck and neck and has a real chance at Mims". Then Mims signs with Georgia.
- Literally within 2-3 weeks news starts swirling that Tennessee screwed up with Mims and the NCAA was on to it. About that time all these investigations started that just ended today.
- It is widely thought that Georgia turned in Tennessee for the Mims recruitment. What exactly for, we don't know, but it's been pretty openly discussed on both sides.

Seems like a dumb move for Kirby / UGA to make long term

Yeah but here's the thing: if Tennessee offered Mims a frick ton of money, why did he go to UGA? Unless they were dumb enough to give him more than a down payment before he signed there's no possible way UGA didn't match it. "Hey NCAA, this recruit got paid by our rival, but just ignore the fact that he's playing for us now. He turned down their dirty money to play for us for free."

Yea but Kirby isn't an idiot like Pruitt. Kirby actually learned how to do it from Saban, Pruitt did not.

Why go after Tennessee? Kirby would have done better by Pruitt being there for a while. I can understand Florida but not Tennessee.

Well I think it was about going after us, but then Tennessee fell in.

That was Auburn's Cam Newton claim.

If Saban thinks that is what was happening, I fear for Kirby in the future.

Kirby learned how to operate in the gray areas of recruiting and do it without getting caught.
Pruitt operates in the gray areas of recruiting like a bull in a china shop.

Yeah but what ended up saving him was a loophole that spared his eligibility because he and his father lied about him knowing what was going on. We also don't know what exactly the Tennessee coaches said during the investigation yet.

Yea I mean this could all be wrong, but it's really strange how:
(a) The whole Mims/Alabama things kept coming up and Mansell and others who we know have an open line with Kirby kept saying "Watch for Alabama, they're still in it!" when we all knew that was bullshite and then
(b) Tennessee ends up in it late when we clearly were totally done being involved, they started getting "traction", lots of the same people said "Tennessee is very much in it", he goes to Georgia, 2 weeks alter Tennessee is investigating their recruiting practices and the Mims recruiting is in the middle of it.
Just really weird.

He was probably hoping to get something to turn us in on but caught Tennessee instead. And I think since they have been so bad for so long you're kinda underestimating how much damage Tennessee can do to UGA if they're bringing in talent. Especially if they're paying for it. Fulmer did it all throughout the 90s and UGA was mediocre at best back then.

Tennessee's biggest pipelines in the 1990s were the Carolinas, Georgia and Mississippi.
