Is “25-2 as a starter” a meaningful stat?

I’d argue the rest of our team had more to do with that record than Jalen, he mainly just stayed out of the way. But people keep bringing this up like Jalen was solely responsible for those wins.

You don't win 25 games in 2 years by being awful.

Jalen is basically our JT Barett. He's fine, but you are probably never winning a championship with him.

And those 2 losses were only the national championship and the end of year rival.

I personally don't put a ton of stock in any QB stats.

are you sure the number is correct? Jalen did technically start the national championship so he gets the "w".

These were Jalen's 3 completions during the game. You can see why we had to make the switch.

Its a team sport so clearly many, many people were responsible for those wins.

But to answer your question, in what regard?

NFL potential - no, not much.

Being a leader and all those intangible factors - it is definitely noteworthy and i'm not sure what qb on our roster last year outside of Hurts would have gotten as many wins. Guy has limited passing skills but has done a lot for Alabama and lead us to a lot of victories.

ETA: Last year not meaning this year as the Hurts vs. Tua and when should Tua have started discussion was beaten into the ground a long time ago so no point in re-hashing it again.

No. It's a team stat. Hurts wouldn't have been 25-2 as the Vandy QB. The only reason that stat is touted is because none of his other stats look particularly good.

Just saying I agree with saying stats are weird. Even Jalen's 3 completions were misleading.

Record is def a team thing. Jalen helped win a few of our games that we may not have and before Tua was on campus.

Personally I think since Tua won the game people think it's open season on Jalen to bash him. Kid gave everything he had and supported Tua when he was benched. Never made a fuss about it. I respect Jalen more now than I did when he was the guy.

Barker was 35-2-1

AJ was 36-4

GMAC was 24-3

GMAC and Barker's #'s were really aided by our defense and strong running games. AJ's were also aided the same way to an extent, but he did more to help the team through the air.

Hurts falls into the same category as GMAC and Barker, although Barker did have a very good Sr year throwing it.

It doesn't really matter how many games you win if you never win the natty.

If you enjoy winning it's meaningful.

I think it’s meaningful to a degree but it clearly doesn’t tell the whole story.

It certainly shouldn’t have been used as the sole reason to keep Jalen out there.

It's a solid team stat. It's probably more meaningful to the defense over the past two seasons, since they were the primary driver of the team.

I'll put it this way; Jalen is a limited QB. Without the limitations in his passing game the team is likely 27-0 or 26-1 over the past two seasons.

Depends on what your definition of “meaningful” is. I take that stat to mean that Jalen didn’t shite the bed and cost us a lot of games. But it doesn’t mean he went out there and WON those games for us either. QBs get too much praise and blame so the stat is used to define him even if it’s misleading.

It would be for 99 + % of the fanbases in this country.

...not his fault the defense had to face Deshaun Watson last year.
