Through the first four games over the last four seasons:

2020: Mac Jones - 1,518 yards
2019: Tua Tagovailoa - 1,300 yards
2018: Tua Tagovailoa - 1,033 yards
2017: Jalen Hurts - 550 yards

In fairness, Tua barely played in the second half of most of those games. Mac has faced better teams though.

This isn't a Mac > Tua thread for what it's worth. While an argument can most certainly be made one way or the other, I think these stats are indicative of the era of football that we are in right now. 25-30 years ago, Mac's stat line would be about how many yards an Alabama QB would throw for a season. The season isn't even half over and he's on pace to throw for well over 3,000 yards in just 10 games.

I remember when our QBs wouldn’t have 1500 yards for the season

Mac can absolutely drop some dimes. His accuracy behind this OL is astounding.

One thing that's probably been overlooked is his toughness, both mentally and physically.

I was worried about where his head was after that first play with the pick, but he got right back in there and didn't miss a beat.

He also took a pounding, and aside from the apparent hip bruise looked to have really weathered it well.

Remember when John Parker Wilson passed for 200yds his first 7 or so starts was like a huge deal

JPW was also saddled with throwing to DJ Hall, who was probably so high at the time that he barely knew he was actually on the field.

bad defense even impacts development of young offensive players on 2nd and 3rd teams

Jay Barker had 1,614 passing yards in 12 games in the 1992 NC season.

Last year's Iron Bowl was a bitter pill to swallow....but it was a baptism by fire for Mac. I'm sure he figures that everything from that game on is easy.

Tua finished 2018 at almost 4000 yards. If we keep going at this rate, Mac could beat that, but it will be tough with 2 less games than Tua received

I looked at Jay Barkers career numbers and....yeesh....he was bad to say the least. He only had one season where he threw more touchdowns than interceptions

I hope the rest of the games are in hand well enough to give Young considerable playing time.

I've noticed that Mac drops down a little from the side when he's throwing. Has that Dan Marino look to it. So far, just about as effective through the air.

Jay was good his senior year.

That 1992 season...he was the ultimate definition of a "game manager" QB...and I actually hate that term lol.

He actually got much better than his Sophomore year vs Miami.

Against Miami, Barker throwing the football was one of the few highlights for the Hurricanes in the game. Thankfully, we finally got him stopped.

The last interception was effectively a punt. He threw it deep down the field on 3rd & 10 trying to get it to Prince Wimbley. Miami intercepted the ball but deep in their own territory. They went three and out, gave us good field position, and we ended up scoring a field goal on the next drive.

Still...Barker had an awful game throwing the football. He had more rushing yards than passing yards.

and, unless my memory is getting tricky again, he missed a wide open receiver in the end zone from about the 4 yard line
