Given that the committee forgives, in a way, a loss if a super important player is hurt, like certain QBs, or if a bunch of folks are injured, which has to mean that it's understood that a team isn't as good without those players. Well, keep this in mind in the following scenario.
Using Clemson v Miami as an example, what if Clemson wins super close, and not-particularly-pretty game against Clemson, and Clemson's QB breaks his leg, their Starting Center blows out his knee, and their starting RB dislocates his elbow. In that scenario, do you think the committee would drop Miami out of the playoffs cause they lost, and also drop Clemson out cause it's believed they won't be as good without those injured players?
Note: I'm not asking as serious way for Bama, or any other team, to make the playoffs. But it's a scenario that could very well happen one of these years pretty soon. I wonder what they'd do...

I think that scenario just brings up the "deserving" vs "best teams" argument. If I had to guess, they would still put the team in, at least this Clemson team you are using in your scenario.
