Been some early conversation already but let’s dive in on some specific matchups that will be key. First thing that comes to mind for me. Surtain, Smith, and carter vs Brown, lamb, and co. I wonder who will matchup with who here. Surtain usually takes the physical recover so I can see him vs Lamb. So Smith May have to cover brown when outside. That’s a tall task to ask of him. How do you think our guys matchup and what other specific matchups intrigue you?

They can’t let Brown take the top off the defense, he’s tiny and fragile but he’s fast AF. He’ll be streaking down the sidelines on go routes for most of the night is my guess. Put Keaton Anderson in to shut him down

Speaking of I didn’t really notice anything bad about Anderson so props to him.

I can't speak to specific matchups, other than the fact that OK's secondary has absolutely no chance to cover our passing game, other than to interfere as much as possible. If Tua (or Jalen) has time to operate, we should have as many touchdowns as we have drives. We should literally be able to run or pass at will versus that defense.

Having said that, OK will likely have a very successful first half offensively. Their coaching staff just an uncanny ability to draw up stuff that very few coaches can think of, and I anticipate our defense looking confused at times through the first 2 quarters. However, I expect our D to adjust and it suddenly become shockingly difficult for OK to find TD's in the second half.

OK's only chance in this game, outside of Bama laying an absolute turd or our players bones exploding, is for OK to score a crapload of points in the first half while Bama's offense shoots itself in the foot, and be up at halftime by 28 or so.

Barring that, I expect Bama to embarass OK in the 2nd half and double them up, a la 62-31 or 55-28.

On this specific topic, many talking heads believe OK has the best Oline in all of CFB. If that Oline finds a way to control the LOS, then we could be in for a long day, particularly versus their ground game/scramble game.

However, I don't really think it's possible to have the desired effect, since OK is used to teams having to commit more folks to defending the pass, like staying in Dime all day or playing zone. OK is going to have to contend with a line that can pressure with 4, and a secondary that can play press coverage with equal/superior athletes - and who do that all game and are in their comfort zone. OK's offense is great, but not a foreign thing to us. Our defense, by Big12 standards, is from another galaxy.

Yep, exactly.

You really think we can hang that may points on OU?

I understand the concept and reason to do it “sometimes” but I hope like hell we don’t do the “mush rush” like UT did Saturday with only 3 rushers. Murray grew a beard back there he had so long to throw. Our Dbs cannot be asked to cover that long

OK gives up 40+ to everyone, and we'll be both the best offense and best defense they will have seen all year. Barring some surprise issues, we find the 50s easily.

All I know is if OU stops us at any period of the game we will have to screw up. They have nothing on that side of the ball

As someone said earlier, their realistic gameplan is basically to gamble and get turnovers and give their offense more possessions than the opponent (and if they score on defense, see WVU, that's an added bonus). They would never openly say that, but at this point with their scheme, players and results, that is how they have to try and play.

Yeah I really hope we focus on running the ball because as good as we are passing they are used to that kind of ball. They could get a turnover or two from that. We need to bludgeon them and then use some rpo action.

Brown was carted off the field during the Texas game with a leg injury. Wonder what the injury is and whether he is expected to be ready for the playoff game.

OK cannot cover our WRs. The o/u on number of pass interference calls on OK ought to be 8.
