Let me start off with saying that I have really enjoyed this season in spite of CV-19, and am not taking this team/season for granted. I got to attend a few games this year with Pops that I probably would not have been able to make during “normal times” due to work.

With that said and ESD for the 2021 class in the books (except two spots I believe?), I’d like to hear what y’all think about the incoming WRs and predictions on who makes an impact. We have some pretty talented guys in the group right now, but with Waddle and Smith leaving and the new guys incoming, there will be some nice competition at the spot next spring.

A. Hall - looks pretty raw, but super athletic and could be developed into a monster.

J. Brooks - seems more polished as a receiver than hall with similar size, but less athleticism.

C. Leary - I think this guy will play significant minutes as a freshman. He’s an absolute baller.

J. Earle - similar to Leary, I think either have a chance to get solid minutes if they can pick up the playbook and learn what they are supposed to do and when.

This is one of the best receiver classes on paper that I’ve seen, I think any of the 4 could push for serious PT - they are all that talented.

Thoughts?

It's really exciting, and the fact that we needed to replace a great group with another great group and just went out and did it is maybe even more awesome.

Brooks is the one I expect to see play soonest. Earle/Leary I could see playing slot/PR/KR as well. Just a super exciting class.

I think Leary and Earle play pretty soon.

WR recruiting has been pretty unbelievable under Saban:

Julio
Amari
Ridley
Jeudy
Ruggs
Smith
Waddle

And I think all 4 from this class could be elite as well. I also still expect big things from Javon Baker and think he could become a stud.

Really wish the new guys coming in had a chance to learn from Smith and Waddle.

I saw the highlights of 2 of them and they are both similar to waddle which is scary to think.

Sims, Rob Foster weren't scrubs. And, White is on IR but still made an NFL roster.

Even in the transfer mkt, Deiter was a contributor.

We also have had some significant role players that would have been 1s elsewhere or excelled in these offenses in Hanks, Norwood, Stewart, Maze, etc.

The extent (depth and breadth; Bama has always had a good, team player WR) of WR positional success pre- and post-Saban has been one of the more remarkable things to watch occur at Bama.

I think Metchie and Baker will have the outside spots pretty locked up. I expect Hall to really push Baker here though. I think Brooks is a better "receiver" right now, but Hall blocks like a maniac which could give him a leg up over Brooks and even Baker.

Bolden is probably our primary punt returner next season and starts in the slot, but just like the Louisville game with Waddle, Earle and Leary are too good to sit on the bench and they're going to be rotated in. Bolden is good and does what's asked of him and expected of him, but Leary has track speed and Earle is just a playmaker.

Jeudy, Smith, and Ruggs really didn't have great production as freshmen until the playoffs, so I'm trying to temper expectations.

There's also a slim chance that Waddle returns next season. I think he's WR3 at best in this draft and could want to be WR1.

Gun to my head right now I would say that 2 of the 4 are major contributors next season. 500-800 yards for two of those guys. I think Waddle had 848 as a freshman

Are these guys going to be sort of interchangeable like Jeudy, Ruggs, and Smitty were the last couple of seasons? I remember those three being so similar that they would play rock-paper-scissors to see who would line up in the TD route spot in the play.

Size is a bit more different. 2 of the guys are Waddle size.

We also need some of these guys to step up. 2017 we had a pretty good established group in front of the Freshman. We don’t next year.

I think Leary and Earle play right away. I actually think it will take Brooks(who is ironically the highest rated) the longest to get on the field.

Brooks is such a technician, unless he just struggles to create separation I think he is very much in the running.

I’ll always remember Gehrig Deiter following Kenyan Drake on that KO return vs. Clemson and then tripping up behind him.

He was kind of our Edelman that year.

Dieter? I thought that was Mullaney? Dieter had that unfortunate drop against Clemson the next year.

Twisted posted this JoJo vid in recruiting thread, fun watch. I especially enjoy the part about him being an LSU commit.

Whats really fun is that even if you think his highlights are sped up (a rumor that has floated around on him), you can find some of these same plays on youtube from other perspectives and the burst is real.
This vid is a must watch though.

I’m going to be cautiously optimistic when I say this group will be better than Juedy, Ruggs, Smith, and Waddle.

Not sure what they would have to do to be better than that group. Probably not even possible.
