Its funny. I think the parties involved are leaking who wants who so they dont get blamed for the outcome. Shanny wants Mac and everyone else on the staff wants Lance.

Maybe, but I don't see why that would matter. Everybody who follows the Niners knows that Shanahan makes all the offensive personnel decisions, especially QB and has final say over the roster. Hell Shanahan basically hired Lynch. Anything that happens with San Fran falls on Kyle.

Well their jobs depend on it and this is a pretty big trade. Dont want to be the guy who got this pick wrong.

I guess I'm confused on who they are since Lynch and his team basically work at the pleasure of Kyle. I just don't see York keeping anyone of these guys if he felt they were in on this trade if it fails regardless of pick but then again he hired Jim Tomsula once. The other piece is why they would leak they want Lance cause he is a reach at 3 and a likely a project? I guess it would just make mose sense to me if it was Fields not Lance. I just don't see York keeping anyone who is saying Lance unless he turns out to be good which I don't think is likely but who knows, you are probably right. In my opinion they gave up too much even if they were getting Lawrence. I am very skeptical of this QB class.

All QB classes are like this though. They tend to get overanalyzed and picked apart in the media far more than any other position, and as a general rule when you're talking about the top ~5 QBs in a draft class the 2 who end up being successful tend to be the ones who landed in the best situations. Compared to the Jaguars and the Jets the 49ers are a model organization, so the deck is already stacked in favor of the QB they end up with even though he's going to be picked after Sunshine and Wilson.

As far as system and the team around him...the 49ers would be perfect for Mac outside of their arsehole social media fans.

Especially if San Fran traded for Julio Jones. They're one of the teams mentioned in a possible trade. Just hope none of our WRs end up in Baltimore. Julio's stats would drop off a cliff with Lamar Jackson as his QB.

I've never seen a quarterback be picked apart as bad as Mac Jones has. Bucky Brooks and Daniel Jeremiah act like they have a vendetta against the guy, they're constantly poking holes in his game all the while ignoring the major flaws in Trey Lance and Justin Fields game. The two biggest traits in being a great quarterback are accuracy and the ability to process quickly, all of which Mac Jones excels at. He completed over 70% of his passes against an all-sec schedule and two playoff games. They always like to throw up how he played with the elite talent, but yet don't want to bring up Joe Burrow played with four first-round picks in LSU's offense in 2019! Sorry for the rant, Lol, I just sat here and listened to a Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks podcast where they ripped Mac Jones for 15 minutes and never poked holes in the other two quarterbacks games. It's very weird, it's almost like they're mad if the 49ers take him at #3. Mac Jones could end being the best quarterback in this draft.

I understand it's a different time when it comes to how football is played, but Mac was about as accurate as any QB in CFB the last ten years. Accuracy trumps athleticism when it comes to playing the QB position, so all these scouts using athleticism to dismiss Mac is about as ridiculous as it gets. Can the guy play is the only question that should matter.

There are several reasons for this in my opinion. First, the media is tired of Alabama winning and Saban is not universally liked in the NFL. They want our program to go down. Also, I think that politics plays a role in it. LSU is held to a different standard than Alabama. Maybe it's because they have more former players in the media. They've gone after Tua the same way. He's only been the league one year and people are just hoping that he'll be a bust. It's so insane. James Jones was trashing our defensive backs in the league the other day and never mentioned Minkah. There is definitely an agenda against the program.

Yep, really hard to forecast that position.

Mac does seem to have the aptitude and confidence in his ability necessary to take that step if he gets put into a good situation.

This. It's also about the right player at the right time with the right coaching/people around him, etc.

I think that's especially true for the ones who aren't physical superstars. Matthew Stafford made it work in Detroit all those years, for example. But a guy like Mac needs to go to the right system.

Two total jackasses. I've also never seen such negativity aimed at a QB prospect... especially a first team All American Heisman finalist that just lead his team to the NC.

Players get picked apart leading up to the draft, but it's gotten ridiculous with Mac. If any player was going to be picked apart, you'd think it'd be the guy that's basically played 1 game in nearly 2 years (Lance)...and didn't look good in the one game against Central Arkansas or some crap team.

Trey Lance is a very good athlete but he has more bust potential than any of the QBs in the draft. He played very few games against subpar competition like you said. But the analysts at ESPN and NFL Network want him to succeed so badly. I'll leave it to your imagination as to why. Also one reason why they want Mac to fail.

I did see quite a few mocks that had him going to the Pats at 15 a month or two before the draft

No way can Lance fail. He is the smartest QB in the draft per Adam Schefter. The ESPN NFL LIVE crews is still blowing Fields and Lance. Imagine that.
