I'm not sure about how we rank as far as penalties and what not, but the offense especially seems to run without any procedure issues whatsoever. We may not be winning every play, but it seems like the false starts and delays, etc are way down this year so far.

We also seem to be protecting the football really well. Kiffins O was so big play oriented, but rife with negative plays and always on the edge of being disorganized. Not bagging on him as a coordinator, but the guy was literally changing play calls from the sideline with 10 seconds left on the play clock. That couldn't have been easy on the players.

Solid game all around. Our youngsters are incredible. Roll damn Tide

Agree. Kiffin was chip, chip, chip, kill shot.

Daboll thus far seems to be (not surprisingly) a very NFLesque keep the chains moving guy. More and more I'm really coming to like how he is using the backs and tight ends in the passing game to keep ahead of the sticks. If it keeps up, this could be a VERY deadly offense.

There is a clear difference between the two.

Kiffin was a cluttered, erratic and immature guy with a savant gift for seeing things develop in front of him and then calling plays to exploit them. This led to a lot of clunky drives, but it also led to some huge explosive plays and situations where we found something that we exploited the entire game.

Daboll is, as cliché as it sounds, a student of the Saban/Belichek school. Everything is in order, everything is prepared, everything is tied up correctly. And you can see it in the way we play. We don't get pre snap penalties. We don't have to burn timeouts because we don't know what we are doing.

Personally, I think Daboll's style clearly fits better with our overall program, but I won't sit here and diss what Kiff did. He added something that we didn't have before. But, it sure is nice to watch us in complete control of ourselves on offense.

I think it's a work in progress, but I think I'm seeing the progress with Daboll. I know it was Vandy, but I saw a lot of new wrinkles and I hope we're just scratching the surface.

This has got to be a bit of an adjustment for an NFL guy.

I hope Saturday wasn't just an anomaly, but it had to breed a lot of confidence.

Yep. Regardless of how Vanderbilt plays out the rest of the year in terms of wins and losses, that's a superbly coached defensive team that will be good on that side of the ball all year.......and we made them look like Western Carolina. Unbelievable offensive performance, especially by our offensive line. That was unreal.

Totally agree with everything, SOG. I loved Kiffin for his talent with working with what he had, especially at QB. There were some magical moments. Fun but chaotic.

But I believe there are other ways to work with what you have, and we have the most talent in the country. Hope Saturday wasn't fool's gold.

Yep, agree. I'm going to be super disappointed if we start being meh on the offensive line after that show on Saturday. I might rage, actually

I'm sure Ole Miss will be a bit of a reality check. Oh well, I'm going to enjoy the high of a nearly flawless offensive performance while I can!

Yea, I think Ole Miss will be a nice follow-up. They aren't good against the run, but they are athletic and you can guarantee they'll be run blitzing and trying to cause havoc like they usually do. If we can calmly dismantle them up front from start to finish I'll start feeling pretty good about things.

Ole Miss statistically has a garbage defense. But they'll try and turn things into a shootout no matter what. Our defense has to hold because this team isn't geared for a shootout.

Oh yeah, im still very concerned about the secondary. Because it all depends on our pass rush.

Good post George - feel the same way. Kiffin is an offensive genius but our offense sort of reflected him and his personality. Explosive yet kind of undisciplined.

We have more talent than anybody in the country. If you have a hot rod that you know has more horsepower than anybody, but you aren't geared right, you change the gears.

It really did. And this one reflects the general Saban/Belichek nature so far. It's pretty crazy how spot on it is.

Kiffin is the poster boy of genius being accompanied with madness. To those that get to observe his entire life, it has to be like watching A Beautiful Mind in the form of a football coach

Agree with most of what has been posted. What has not been said is there’s a down side to Dabolls methods: Kiffin wasn’t married to a game plan. If a team schemed to shut some facet of our game down, Kiffin would see where that left them open or weak and adjust to exploit the new weakness with lethal results before the defense readjusted. Can Daboll adjust well to unforeseen circumstances or will he sit there and blindly pound his head against a brick wall because that was the game plan he drew up based on film study, etc? Some of these uber-prepared guys have a hard time when the plan goes to shite because the enemy doesn’t do what you expect him to do. The jury is still out on Daboll here.

Watch the play clock and how quickly and efficiently the offense gets line up. Night and day from last year. Fast but doesn't look rushed. It's part coaching but also a by product of having more upperclassman on the field in comparison to last year.

Yea, it was one of the first things I noticed against FSU. We are out of the huddle and to the line with 10-12 seconds on the play clock every single play. That hasn't changed in the games since, either.

ole Miss has a god awful rush defense. We would win this game not trying a pass. We are going to dominate time of possession

but it seems like the false starts

This is tongue in cheek, so don't roast me over this...

There is an easy explanation for the lack of procedure penalties. C-Rob is gone and he was good for at least 2 or 3 false starts per game.
