But we can try, just a little bit, to tap the breaks on Tua?

I love the way he plays, I love his talent, I love the way he handles himself. He is really exciting. He's also played 6 quarters of football. He's like 20 year old. We have a ton of other great NFL players on our offense, including on the OL and at RB.

I just feel this thing moving towards a place where the pressure on his shoulders from everyone (Bammers, media, etc) is so outrageous that anything short of 45 TDs/2 INTs and scoring a TD on every drive will be viewed as a bit of a disappointment.

Ok that's all I got, debbie downer out!

What is this crap? I just want him to be better than Hurts. He's already that. Anything else is just icing on the cake.

That's the camp I'm in (and I think most are), but I don't think everyone is comfortably staying in that place.

I'm fine being the debbie downer guy. Every group needs one of those, especially now that Data has left the downer station.

I'm reasonable and rational.

But, the answer is, no, Bama fans won't tap the brakes. They've been itching for a top QB for so long that they pretended Hurts was one. Imagine their behavior as Tua racks up huge stats and plays all year. It's going to get out of hand. Maybe it already has.

But, I'm with you. I wish everyone could be excited but not get carried away.

Honestly, it's probably the media as much or more than anyone else. I just don't see why they can't be a middle ground between............"Game manager QB" and "2x Heisman winner and best QB of the last decade".

I’m holding my reservation for LSU and Auburn. 2 toughest defenses. Deifnetly think he gets it done since he hung 3 TDs in 1 half on the 2nd best defense in the nation in the title game. But as long as we are controlling the ball and scoring enough points to comfortably operate then that’s all we need. Someone to let the defense play aggressive and stay fresh.

Watch this fanbase when he has an average to bad game. Will be pandemonium in here.

Your point is well and good but he's played more than 6 quarters of football and he played well every time out. I also think we're pumping him too much right now, but the flip side is that we shouldn't slight him either.

Yeah, it would help if the media didn't feed it. But, in fairness, they write to their audience and wild hyperbole gets clicks.

Well, you had his Elite 11 performance, then the keyhole comment by Dabol and the comment by Herbstreit. All that combined with him leading a comeback in the NC game as a true freshman = hype train is full speed ahead..

Plus, he's not just a good QB taking advantage of the talent around him or a system QB, he's a special talent and it is apparent to 99% of the people that watch him play.

He's awesome, no doubt. And I expect him to keep being awesome. But, there are a lot of awesome players in college football, so I just don't see the need by some to go from awesome to best of this and best of that and all-timer etc, etc.

I just want the kid to keep playing fast and loose and don't want to see expectations mount to an insanely stupid level. And it just feels like it's going that direction, and the first moment he throws 3 picks everyone is going to pounce on him (mostly non-Bama people, probably).

I agree with you George. However, we are talking about the Alabama fanbase here. We polarize EVERYTHING.

I will say that I personally have confidence that Tua is about to frick shite up though, barring injury.

I hear you but consider this: Tua came into arguably the most pressure-packed situation you could ask for in the National Championship Game. To add to that, he was as cool as possible after taking the sack in OT. He dealt with an entire offseason of people praising him, throwing parades for him, putting him on top of Heisman lists, etc. Adding to that, he had surgery and had to unseat his friend & incumbent starter. To this point, all of that hasn’t phased him one bit.

Now the pressure will get dialed up as the season goes on for sure, but Tua is special and I have total faith in him to handle anything that’s thrown at him.

I know, that's the craziest part. I'm almost posting this to try and tell myself these things. It all just seems to good.

SOMETHING HAS TO GO WRONG.
