And I dang sure didn’t know he transferred from Memphis to Auburn. Hard to believe a Alabama legend like Buck Johnson sent his son to auburn...did Avery not recruit his son or was avery the reason he went to Memphis?

We had better options on the board and landed all of them in that 2017 class. Jamal was a backup plan

Those early Wimp teams with Buck Johnson and Bobby Lee Hurt were some of my favorites.

Still remember Joe Dean calling those games too - the original “String Music!”

Yes he was. I enjoyed watching Bama basketball during that era. Birmingham was a Hot bed for talent back then.

Buck's jump hook was incredible.

I met Buck Johnson when I was a kid at the original Bama Bino Pizza on Hackberry. He signed a Bama Bino cup for me that I still have somewhere.

This seems like as good a thread as any to ask this question. I remember a Bama guard (think it was the point guard) hitting a last second shot in the NCAA tourney to beat Illinois, I think. It was controversial because the player traveled before the shot.

My questions are what year was this and who made the shot? I want to say it was Gary Waites, but it also seems like it was a few years before Waites was on the team.

My memory isn't what it used to be.

The recruiting battle for Buck Johnson between Wimp and Gene Bartow was epic.

I don't think we recruited him very hard.

Avery Johnson was a pretty good one too........ and we know firsthand it doesn’t always run in the family.

It wasn’t him but one of my favorites at the guard position was Ennis Whatley

I was pretty young but still remember Ennis and Bobby Lee's first game in Tuscaloosa. I remember Ennis spinning around towards the end of the game running out the clock with the defender chasing him. He was so quick.
