How the heck do you describe Mercer's offense?

I just watched like 20 minutes of it from last year and I truly have no descriptive term for it.

2020 Army vs Mercer

It's like some principles of the Flexbone along with quick pass run n' shoot/west coast and cut blocking on every play?

They run a ton of shotgun multiple tight end stuff, then they run this Flexbone look where they do speed sweep motion where the play either is
(a) hand off to deep back
(b) speed sweep
(c) fake to deep back roll out one way or another

Then they go into the shotgun and run some of that spread option stuff that Georgia Southern runs.

I cannot think of a team I would compare it to.

Edit: Apparently they call it the "Spread Wing"?

"Wing T with a vertical Passing Game"

I'm now preparing myself for the knee injury one of our starting defensive linemen or pass rushers will get in this game.

Looks like Urban Meyer's spread option combined with the flexbone. I have to give them a lot of credit with their creativity- lots of misdirection I haven't really seen before

Unless they recently changed coaches, why would you schedule a team with an offense you won’t see again and involves cut blocks? See Citadel a few yesterday ago. If I recall, someone got hurt by a cut block. Buggs, maybe?

They changed coaches. I think at this point you can't even try to schedule smaller schools and anticipate that the same coaches will be there.

I wish they'd ban cut blocking. They say they want to protect players but continue to allow it.

No doubt in my mind Saban is going to get super pissed off today.

I'm really not looking forward to this game at all. I know each game has its risks but this being Mercer after playing a Top 15 Miami team for the season opener gives me the feeling that we are in for a major letdown with one or two key injuries from those stupid cut blocks.

Didn't Georgia southern run something similar when we played them a few years ago.

Basically kind of a triple option out of spread formations

I’d love to see us ground and pound the whole game. Burn clock and keep our defense off the field.

We seem to be defending it pretty well.
