How much do you think Hurts has improved?

He looked better but nowhere near the hype we were hearing. Better deep ball but that was already okay last year. His short to intermediate passing is still poor.

His deep ball was ok last year? All I remember was him constantly over-throwing people.

I thought I saw a ton of improvement in that area.

His deep ball looked great.

Still shaky and indecisive on intermediate throws

Yeah I think so. When guys were wide open deep, he hit them. That's okay I think. That's basically what he did yesterday outside of the pass to Calvin near the pylon.

He had two good deep passes in the Clemson game, and was able to capitalize on secondary busts all season. He continued doing that.

His passing has improved. The difference between he and Tua was obvious once Saban took the restraints off of the defense. Hurts made the necessary drive and passes at the end of the game to put the team in position to win. Tua will be the best QB Bama has had in the Saban tenure but he is not ready yet.

Well, one good thing to think about.

It's only been 3.5 months since Bama last played and we have 4.5 months to improve until the start of the next season.

A bit. He looked even faster when he went to run it thought.

He's still staring down receivers though.

Not enough to change anyone's mind. Hurts could start for four years and people will always think he should be better or someone else should be playing. That's the nature of the position.

That's not the nature of the position. That's the nature of inadequate QB play

I don't think someone else should be playing. I penciled Jalen as a four year starter about one half into the USC game last year. That doesn't mean we shouldn't be able to critique him.

His deep ball looked 100x better. His ability to go through his reads when his first option isn't open was sketchy. His ability to throw consistent and accurate intermediate passes is still lacking IMO. In short, it looks like he improved 1 of 3 critical areas. If he can get at least one more before fall we will be in good shape. If he doesn't...Tua may get a shot at some point in the season. Gotta be able to go through your reads and hit open 15-20 yard patterns.

**just as important to our passing game...we need a RT. Womack and Leatherwood both looked like they were wearing concrete shoes. I really though Leatherwood would be more impressive. Hope he develops quickly.

Not much. Incredibly low ceiling but Coach Saban's biggest fault is loyalty to those with experience so we are stuck with him.

He has shown zero ability to do this. First option or do the Nick Marshall scramble and A. Hope that the DB's pull off leaving a wide open target or B. Pull it and run.

The guy won SEC offensive player of the year as a true freshman and many of our fans think his performance was "inadequate." Like I said, that's the nature of the position, at least when you're dealing with spoiled-arse Alabama fans.

That's normal for an 18 year old kid learning the college game. The key is seeing progress. Some guys come to college as good as they'll ever be and other guys grow a ton each year. It remains to be seen which Hurts will be. Reading defenses and going through progressions while people twice your size try to decapitate you is difficult, but he has to get there if we want to be champs. The difference between us an Clemson last year was Watson. Heck, he almost beat us two years in a row and would have if not for some heroic special teams plays the first time. He got better and more accurate as the game wore on against the best D in the country. He did that by being great at reading defenses and being an accurate passer. He carved us up like a turkey both years. That's where we need to see Hurts heading in his development. Either that or Tua needs to grow up quick.

That's great that he won an award last year. Doesn't change that in our 3 post season games he averaged about 100 yards passing per game and completeled less than 50 percent of his passes. That didn't get the job done last year and it won't this year either. His passing actually regressed last year. His play down the stretch(post-season) was downright awful. Hopefully he can take the next steps as a sophomore. We are all pulling for him.
