How is it that we are playing USC next year?

I thought they were boycotting us simple minded deplorables and forbidding participation in places that don’t 100% cow-tow to leftist beliefs, including Texas.

USC is a private institution, it is not part of the UC system so what you are referring to would have never applied to them.

USC is a private school and isn't affected by the law, only public schools are.

So USC atheletics should be getting a boon in recruiting. “Hey, we aren’t banned from participating in the most competitive places and events.”

USC athletics and administration have plenty other things to worry about other than any perceived advantages of the UC legislation.
However if you know someone whose family makes less than 80k who is looking to get a large school private education experience, USC is offering free tuition. This is purely about access and not a ploy to deflect from the admissions scandal, I promise.
Regardless of the reasons that it was implemented that is a great deal.

While USC is a private university, that's irrelevant. Fresno State, a public university, came to Tuscaloosa in 2017 even though the California government travel ban took effect in January of that year.
First of all, no universities are being boycotted. It is taxpayer funded state travel to certain states. So the USC game wouldn't apply anyway, because the game isn't being played in Alabama.
Second, the California state law only applies to taxpayer-funded dollars. Universities that the law applies to can pay for team travel with booster money, which is private. Or, as was most likely the case with Fresno, it was actually the money Alabama paid Fresno that paid for the travel expenses. That's how Fresno was able to come to Tuscaloosa in spite of the "travel ban".

Public university football teams aren't either. Taxpayer dollars don't fund the travel of UCLA's football team.

I thought I read somewhere back in 17, that Frenso St was still allowed to play that game because the contract was signed before the law went into effect.

According to that link, UC system schools are banned, and the list would include Texas. Caveat: I understand that USC is not UC system; it is private. I also understand that apparently booster funds can be used to circumvent that law. However, I could also see the state getting broad in their interpretation, much like the interstate commerce clause was broadly used in order to enforce legislation that the government wanted and private companies were circumventing. Perhaps their law was just an exercise in virtue signaling.

Always ironic when California attempts to be the nation's moral compass.

This take involved 0 research and it shows.
But go off with this narrative of yours.

What's ironic is someone using the name "lovethelord" bitching about "leftist beliefs" such as, not being an a-hole toward other people?
Certainly, we all know Jesus was all about discriminating against people different from you!

Not trying to be a butt, but it is kowtow.
Also, Jesus was probably fairly "leftist" in his ideas by today's standards.

Interesting. In what ways do you think Jesus would be leftist by today’s standards?

Are we really going to do one of these brainless "which 21st century binary choice of political philosophies would Jesus Christ be a proponent of" things?
As if the teachings of Jesus Christ and overarching belief of how a government should behave and intervene in it's citizens lives are even close to congruent?
Sometimes........sheesh

You didn't even read the first sentence:
"Effective January 1, 2017, this law prohibits state-funded travel..."
Once again...a little more slowly...the state of California...i.e., California tax dollars...does not fund the travel of UCLA's football team.

Apparently can be??? That's exactly what's been happening for three years. Not only did Fresno travel, San Jose State went to Texas in 2017. Cal went to Ole Miss last year. UCLA played at Oklahoma in 2018.
Once again, the law does not prevent college football teams from traveling to those states. If the leftist AG of California, Xavier Becerra, thought he had a winnable court case to stop them, you can bet your arse he would have by now.
Virtue signaling? Yeah, that's probably all it was.

Well, I am interested in hearing his perspective as I see Christ as having very little to do with politics and everything to do with reconciling sinful men to a holy God. Nonetheless, the current religious landscape is littered with people seeking to make Jesus into their political patron saint.
In my own denomination, the Presbyterian Church in America, we have traditionally been a conservative evangelical denomination focusing on the Gospel to individual sinners. However, recently a number of young pastors, led by one very well know older and highly influential pastor have brought critical race theory into our denomination. They sound like 1960s PCUSA and Episcopalian churches. The stuff they allow to be taught is antithetical to Christ and the Gospel.
I am still interested in seeing where this dude is coming from. After all, he was at least temperate in his arguement, unlike the guy before him who virtue signaled.
