How do you all feel? Has Shane dropped any bulk?

Honestly his high school film looks as good as any of theirs. I don't think any of them pass him up unless they have Rolando McClain type football smarts. Also he looks like he moves better than Blackshire to me.

No idea what his current weight is but if he can't get faster with Rhea and Ballou working on him then he's not going to.

He isn't the fastest but if you watch the film you can see the problem was his confusion. Lot of hesitating and not knowing where to go.

Effort was there though. A lot of guys around here like comparing him to Depriest which is bull shite. Trey Depriest in his last two years would just flat out quit on plays and not even try running people down.

I agree. Saw Shane Lee attempting to chase down guys.

Dude ran a laser timed 4.72 forty at 250 pounds. If he drops down to 235 he's going to be an animal.

Yea I understand that. For those guys who are built like tanks I don't think it is easy for them to just drop weight. I have faith in the staff tho.

All I know is he played his arse off and never showed negative body language when everyone knew be was being put in a terribly difficult position.

I hope the kid finds a role and excels at it. He's one of the ones that should really benefit from the new S&C staff. They'll find a way to get him to a place where he can produce.

I feel terrible for Shane. He got thrown into an incredibly tough, no win situation through no fault of his own before he was ready to play. Now fans and media have grilled him all off-season. I hope he has a chance to redeem himself eventually after some more time in the program. On the same subject, I'm stoked to see how much Christian Harris improves. He has amazing upside.

Shane Lee looks like a fullback to me. Like one of those guys that Mark Richt had at Georgia. The dude is stout.

Jalston Fowler looking. I’d love to see him play wherever he fits. He is a great kid and teammate.

Agreed and I'm not sure where he fits in at linebacker with the talent on the roster right now as well as guys the staff is recruiting. I'd like to see him play a role similar to Ale Kaho as a fullback in certain situations.

I don’t see how he starts over Moses or Harris who are both faster, longer and leaner. That said, if he can slim down and get a step, he could be first guy off the bench this year with a chance to start in 2021. Just too thick and slow last year. CFB is a speed game now. Gotta have it.

It's going to be tough for him to keep up with a younger guy like Demouy Kennedy. Kennedy is a prototypical modern linebacker who can play sideline to sideline. I hope that the staff finds a role for Lee if he gets passed on the LB depth chart.

I'm sure Shane Lee will benefit from the enhanced S&C program, and will become much more fluid as a result.

I said all last year that Lee's problem wasn't his ability, it was being thrust into a starting role waaaay before he was ready due to injuries and recruiting misses in previous classes. Having a true freshman with a few weeks of collegiate experience be responsible for calling a complex defensive scheme while also handling his own responsibilities is almost impossible in today's game.

Experience will be a major factor in his improvement this year, I believe. I expect him to look much better when he's on the field. Knowing where to go and what to do will make him appear faster, even if he's not (although I believe he WILL be faster).

I'm excited as hell to see how the new S&C program helps the program as a whole. It certainly should help in recruiting.

Now Lee is going to get on the field and play some football for us. He wasn't getting lined up correctly, but frankly, we had a lot of defensive upperclassmen who were staring at the sideline when the ball was being snapped. Some of that is still whether we have an ILBer coach and DC that isn't over his head again this season.

Anytime we are in the nickel we should expect Lee to see the field. In the money zone and goal-line defenses, he was made for that stuff. He's a gamer for my money and I really like his toughness and hustle. When Alabama doesn't have a place for these type players on the field we have truly retired any concept of making their azz quit.

Same thing used to be happening with Mack Wilson.

I've seen flashes of brilliance from Shane. I think he has "it," and experience, coaching and confidence will bring it out. Full faith in Shane here.
