I just keep expecting the young def players to turn a corner. Maybe they are in small increments but not as fast as needed.

Injuries and shite hurt - remember how awesome that 2010 team could have been?

But I'm just going to enjoy the season and see what happens - get to the SEC Championship game, win and who knows what can happen in a 2-game season.

Also, hoping that the young guys can maybe make a leap over the bye week after having a lot of experience and then a chance to sort of re-set focus.

Perception is a dangerous game. The idea that Bama can't play defense is only because the media wants to compare our defense to other Bama defenses. When's the last time the media wanted to compare our offense to other Bama offenses that won championships? Yeah, it doesn't happen.

While I've heard many good things about auburn and Florida's defense, much less complimentary of LSU and certainly Alabama. Some are wondering out loud if it's too much of a hurdle to overcome.

At the halfway point Bama is sitting at #26 in the nation in Total Defense.

Did you know the barners are sitting #23?

Did you know that Florida is sitting at #25?

Did you know that LSU is sitting at #24?

What a crap show. Here's the defensive reality that separates these 4 elite SEC teams.

#23 - Auburn - 319.0 YPG
#24 - LSU - 319.4 YPG
#25 - Florida- 319.5 YPG
#26 - BAMA - 321.0 YPG

I think it has more to do with the fact that Bama has played a fairly weak schedule and it not dominating weaker opponents with any regularity.

It's hard to say whether or not Bama would be as high as #26 if they had played Oregon and Florida, Texas and Florida, or LSU and Auburn.

Not as concern about the defense as most!
I think 24 was finally turned loose when we hit A&M. I also notice that 36 and 58 playing more on 3rd downs.
But Tenn first possession was when we finally told a lB'er to shoot the middle run gap (8) along with a lineup of 58, 24, 33,99 ,
was very effective. That made me think we've been holding back some things.

Ive said it several times that Saban will have to make a huge decision about Mayden, carter and Lee.
We know Surtain had been prepared to play in the slot just for reasons like matching up on a Jennings..
We choose d to stay based nickle and let Carter play there. We have seen 15 play in the box a lot
and it will depend on how LSU lines up on if we stay base.

I think 92 got a little to big and think he should play a little lighter as he looked quicker on his high school footage.
I do like the fact we have been giving 99, 33 some possession breaks.
last year never taking them and ruggs of the field hurt us by the time we met Clemson.
The OU game a a very physical game and its effect showed up title night.

More perception and misconception.

For you to continue to put Texas in anyone's SOS is criminal. Kansas just put 48 points on the Longhorns in Austin, along with 562 total yards. And Les Miles had to fire his OC last week. At some point, don't we just conclude that Texas is just a Big 12 team, with a Big 12 defense?

To figure out everyone's SOS, first, one must get off the hype train.

Any chance that Tua shuts it down for the season?

I doubt it.

Relative to the defense, I think it's definitely a result of being young (largely due to early departures for NFL and injuries). However, I think defenses almost always suffer when their teams offenses are highflying. Not just because of quick scoring but there seems to be something inherent about practicing against these teams that weakens a defense. Perhaps playing defense take a dawg as Saban says and you only build that mentality by practicing against a downhill running team day in and day out.

maybe....maybe LSU but their defense may be worse than ours

I've watched LSU play several times and their defense isn't bad. Also I trust Aranda more than I trust Golding.

It's not a coincidence that every time we get a QB that can sling it around that our defense is terrible and when we switch to a more conservative QB the defense is magically good again (D is terrible with Blake Sims and Tua, godlike with Jalen, AJ, Coker, etc.) Same exact thing with LSU. Suddenly their defense can't stop anybody the second their offense figures out how to score. That's just the way football works.

Don't be surprised if the defense magically looks better if we're running and slowing things down.

This, plus if Tua goes pro after this year, we will have never seen him play more than half a season while healthy.

If our offense is as good as we think it is, then nothing will be "wasted" and it won't be the defense's fault, IMO. This team has been unstoppable so far this year, so I am not sure what is a "shame" at this point. The defense has been good enough with this offense. The loss to Clemson in January was every bit as much of our offense's fault as our defense's, if not more.

If our offense is running on all cylinders, then our defense will do what they need to do IMO.

Texas is Top 20 in total offense and Top 10 in TDs scored. Thats not hype.

Its not a crime against humanity to admit Bama's defense just isn't that great.

What's a crime against humanity is watching Texas DBs trying to wrap up.
