Cecil tweeted it, but Byrne mentioned that he hasn't been contacted by A&M regarding the AD position. I really hope that he stays because he has been killing it. In all fairness, he did say that "he wanted to be here." So, you know...are pet's heads are falling off.

I don't see any reason why he would go there. His dad was AD there from 2003-11, but Greg has no other ties. From what I can tell, Greg has never lived in Texas, gone to school in Texas, etc. I don't see them paying him more than we would/are.

Apparently, his parents live right outside A&M in a little town called Bryan, TX which is right outside of College Station. He may not have a reason, but A&M has a ton of money to throw out there. Not too hard to potentially connect the dots.

CNS is AD in waiting, and he will ascend to be the Athletics Czar.

The process and the accountability that goes along with it are about to go department wide. Don't feel safe club sports and intramurals, he's coming for you, too. nothing will look or smell like an Athletic competition of any sort without demanding excellence in all facets.

Seems like a lateral move. Didn’t we just make him the highest paid AD in the SEC? It’s not like these guys are making 3-4 million + a year, they make like less than a million a year. I think and hope we would match A&M ‘s offer.

surprisingly true.

I imagine most has to do with the fact that many hold vice-chancellor titles as well. It must be a bit awkward to make more than the chancellor at some point... albeit, it is accepted for HCs.

Byrne is already the highest paid AD in the SEC (2017-2018 data)
quote:

SEC
1. Greg Byrne, Alabama — $1.225 million
2. Scott Stricklin, Florida — $1.08 million
3. Hunter Yurachek, Arkansas — $1.05 million
4. Phillip Fulmer, Tennessee — $1.04 million
5. David Williams, Vanderbilt — $985,000

only 17 ADs make over 1 million (and some of those figures are based on incentives and bonuses for accomplishments)
quote:

1. Jack Swarbrick, Notre Dame — $3.05 million
2. Jim Phillips, Northwestern — $1.57 million
3. Barry Alvarez, Wisconsin — $1.55 million
4. Kevin White, Duke — $1.451 million
5. Kirby Hocutt, Texas Tech — $1.45 million
6. Chris Del Conte, Texas — $1.435 million
7. Gene Smith, Ohio State — $1.42 million
8. Greg Byrne, Alabama — $1.225 million
9. Joe Castiglione, Oklahoma — $1.149 million
10. Ron Wellman, Wake Forest — $1.106 million
11. Dan Guerrero, UCLA — $1.084 million
12. Scott Stricklin, Florida — $1.08 million
13. Hunter Yurachek, Arkansas — $1.05 million
14. Phillip Fulmer, Tennessee — $1.04 million
15. Whit Babcock, Virginia Tech — $1.03 million
16. Bubba Cunningham, North Carolina — $1.0004 million
17. Bill Moos, Nebraska — $1 million

I think for Byrne to move to aTM, it would take him solidly being the #2 paid AD in the nation

I would hope we would pony up if they came offering. Byrne has done solid work ever since he got here.

If Byrne leaves, My list would include MSU's Cohen, and the AD at Iowa State.

I’d get annoyed with all of the downvotes for creating this thread, but it’s par for course. Just figured I woulda throw out Cecil’s tweet and see what we thought.

Don't worry about downvotes. Sometimes I just downvote myself to get the ball rolling

Downvotes are like the people that click them - they don't matter at all.
