I'll be honest. I had a sick feeling about the Georgia game going into the weekend. I think this win may be more important than credited at this point.

Had Georgia thumped us, a troubling narrative about decline could have set in. Saban isn't getting any younger. The big games have been a little rough for this team lately. Some would say the program was losing a step.

Instead, we got a solid win, showed a glimmer of progress on defense, proved that we are still top tier, and even got more fire and emotion out of Saban than I've seen in a while.

Recruiting and brand power should be on a more than solid footing for the immediate future.

I had a worried feeling about losing, really down on the defense. While the defense didn't look particularly good - they did show that they have the ability for improvement, so it gave me a little more hope moving forward.

If I'm being honest, the game didn't do much for my confidence in the defense. On many of the pass attempts there were receivers running wide open and the qb didn't go through his progressions to get the ball to them. And, we weren't getting consistent pressure. A good qb does a better job. An elite qb shreds us.

I agree that there are problems on defense. There are QBs left on the schedule that can capitalize.

This just feels like a more enjoyable win with less of a bad taste than some recently. Perhaps it was just the made field goal ha.

That was a great win. No doubt about it. First time we’ve played Georgia and it didn’t come right down to the end in a long time. They are gaining on us in recruiting as well. Nice to make a statement to all of those recruits of “we’re still here, and are still the big dog.” Kirby is a good, but not great coach. Wins like that expose Kirby more and more. That’s great for our program.

Absolutely. That was the best win this program has had in a while. It was a dominant win over the likely 2nd best team in the conference

Georgia has already surpassed Bama in recruiting. Georgia has the most talented roster in college football. Bama was passed mainly because of the 18 recruiting class.

Recruiting isn't a science. Coach Saban knows football players under those 5* star helmets. . Look at the skill level difference between Bama and Georgia. Not even close.

That 18 class is a big reason we don't have an alpha upper classman leader on defense.

Or Jeremy Pruitt left Tuscaloosa in 2017.

That too. But we got Surtain, Jobe, and Barmore still around from that class. Imagine if Quay Walker and Bobby Brown don't flip and Anoma lives up to his potential. Defense would be completely different.

Anoma would make a huge difference.

The 2 biggest recruiting disappointments we've had recently imo are Anoma and Alfano. If those guys had lived up to their recruiting hype, both were considered can't miss, day 1 draft pick types, our pass rush would be a holy terror this year.

It does seem like folks fail to realize the recruiting misfires for a stretch there. Especially compared to Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State, over the same period. Plus UT snagging some away. Still, less talented defenses are more sound at certain positions.

Ensuring that a few new studs are committed and pan out at the right defensive positions while keeping offensive skill players coming in will be key.

He would be an issue for any school he went to, the kid isn’t right in the head. I talked to him a few times, even got some info out of him and I was like this dude is nuts.

That hurt but the misses in the Class of 2018 hurt us more than people realize. We had some misses in the Class of 2019, too, but nowhere near as bad as 2018. The Class of 2020 and the Class of 2021 look to be more in line with what we are used to seeing with DL and LB recruiting under Saban.

Almost every SEC QB is capable of having a career day in today's football world, but looking at the rest of our schedule, I don't see a single QB that worries me.

Gurantano is a turnover machine, and always has been.
Costello has been awful since the LSU game, though he's been without Hill who should be back for our game.
Brennan has been pretty pedestrian against good competition.
Wilson hasn't been bad, but again he doesn't really concern me much.
Nix has been pretty bad in a pretty bad offense.
Franks has been decent enough this season, but not overly concerning. He's also prone to bone headed INTs.

Then we likely get Bennett again in the SEC Championship game. I don't see us facing an elite QB until the playoffs, if we make it to the playoffs. Trevor Lawrence would shred us right now, so hopefully we can gradually improve until the playoffs.

We have got a boatload of defensive talent starting for us. An embarrassment of riches at every position. We aren't playing as one yet. That's the whole story in a nutshell.

I agree, but the crazy ones usually make great defensive players. Anoma’s issues were probably too great of a risk for Bama to work with though.

Boatloads of talent don't get pushed off the ball like they're on roller skates. Boatloads of talent don't take awful angles when pursuing. Boatloads of talent don't let TEs who are 2 steps slower run a simple out route and beat you to the flat.

I'll believe we have all this talent when we start physically whipping people's asses up front.
