Is it possible we're much better than we think we are?
Is it possible this team is gelling, and coming together, and getting better as the season goes on?
Our defense is basically the same thing as last year. This is the new normal for Alabama football. For better or worse, our team is built around our offense now. Our defense is all about bend but don't break, and playing good in the redzone. I know many hate it, but it worked well enough last year.
So with that said, it makes sense for us to focus more on our offense, since we sort of live or die by our offensive success at this point.
Our offense is getting better from week to week. Bryce Young is getting more comfortable throwing deep, and he showed off some really nice running ability vs. Tennessee which will help us down the stretch.
Drops are still an issue, but we just have to hope they go away. Jameson Williams and Metchie are really starting to emerge. It looks like Holden is ready to get more involved as well. It'd be nice to have those 3 on the field more than using Bolden or Earle in the slot in my opinion.
Robinson is looking great. Roydell is getting better. Our Oline really needs to get better - that's definitely our weak point right now on offense.
I have to say, going into the bye, with the opportunity to clean some things up, we still control our own destiny. If you stop thinking about our defense, and focus on how good this offense can be down the stretch, you might find some reasons for optimism.
We can beat Georgia. We can beat anyone. We've already been humbled by A&M which I think only helps.
Let's be optimistic, and see how things turn out.

Roll tide, brother. Good post. Let’s do it.

This team is so young and we are missing a couple of critical pieces. They are building though. I like the direction they are going. If we can shore up the right side of the line a bit and get a bit better on the deep ball, we will be hard to beat.
I knew we wouldn't be as good as last year wit all that we lost and was excited to see how it would pan out. I've actually enjoyed this season so far. I think Saban is doing one of his better jobs coaching too.

We're #2 in the nation in scoring offense so we have that going for us.

If we didn't lose Harris, our d would be looking much better. Nobody would have time to throw with Anderson and Harris rushing. Why do we have to lose at least 1 critical player to injury early every season?

Wish there was a speedy back to get around the end.
Great post and I concur. If they gel down the stretch, watch out

So basically we need to have NFL starters on our DL, LB and at DB for us to put out a competitive defense.
Some don't see what is wrong with this picture.
We have a veteran defense and we are in the same boat as last season needing our QB to be prime Joe Montana for us to have a chance at winning anything.

Did you not read my post? Stop focusing on the defense. Alabama is about offense now. I know it can be frustrating but it is what it is. This is our style now - we’re built to win offensive shootouts.
We can hope our defense does better but that’s all we can do at this point. Every now and then they play a really good game (Ole Miss, vs. OSU last year). Let’s just hope they can make some key stops for us at times, and hope the offense can become damn near unstoppable, because that’s what we need.

I think Drew Sanders was missed the last 3 games.
He'll be back for LSU.

With what we lost last year including 8 starters on O… I think BOB and company have done very well

well, that's not really an accurate picture. Our defense is definitely "competitive." They are inconsistent, sure. Defenses don't shut 2021 Ole Miss down if they aren't competitive.

People apparently think every year either is or should be a copy of 2020.
Newsflash to anyone that has forgotten - we've had TWO undefeated seasons in 15 years that Saban has been here. We are still in control of our destiny for the entire season - unlike 2011 and 2017 - those abhorrent seasons in which we didn't even win our division.
This team is flawed. So is every other team out there. For all of the fawning over Georgia, show me who they have beaten that is truly impressive. They are good and their defense is elite, but any suggestion that they are untouchable is people fretting for no reason.

Lol. We are 7-1 and ranked #3.
#15 in total defense (306.1 ypg)
#35 in scoring defense (20.62 ppg)
#24 in forced turnovers (13)
#8 in interceptions (11)
#30 in 3rd down conversion percentage (34%)
#6 in defensive efficiency (81.0)
Our strength of schedule currently ranks #7, so we aren't exactly facing creampuffs.
Are we 2011/2016 elite? Not even close. But to say we aren't "competitive" is asinine.

Exactly. Georgia isn't as good as everyone thinks. The best team they've played so far is either Auburn or Kentucky.. I mean come on. Sure, they're winning with style, but Florida will be their toughest matchup so far. Let's see what happens. I think they'll win, but they won't look untouchable.
When we face Georgia, we'll both be facing the first elite team we've faced all season. It's going to be the same sort of close game it always is when we face Georgia in Atlanta.

True, and we're only going to get better as the season goes on. Getting Drew Sanders back will be a big help. Maybe some of the young guys will develop enough to rotate in as well.

Sanders was starting to play really well when he got hurt. It's not unreasonable to think if he plays against A&M we may have won the game. Now, that's not to say we didn't play like garbage because we did, but when a last-second FG makes the difference I don't think that's an unreasonable thought.
