From the content on the rant (Yes, I know) I would guess the average age to be about 16-20. Am I wrong, are there actually functioning adults among them? Better question, why do I even look at the rant?

The rant has some good info, at times. Look past the weeds.
The trolls are simply fishing for attention - ignore them or bait them its of no consequence.

Just based on the opinions espoused by people on the rant... I suspect the average age is much higher than you think. Its a ton of grown men who are stressed in real life using a message board to blow off steam.

I look at the rant because there is occasionally actual useful information. However I have never and will never post there. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy.

The trolling on the Rant has been pretty epic lately: You had Cleatgate, Gus getting fired, and then Bama flipping LSU recruits ("We Goin' Beat Dey arse In Recrootn')….all in just a week....It's been pretty entertaining.

Yeah, if you look at a brand new user profile, the number at the end of the URL is the incremental count of registered users. Right now it's over 200k.
Assuming a lot of the earlier users (at least those who still post on the OT) joined around college age, that alone would put those guys in the 35-40 range now.
I'm sure there are extremes on ether end, but your 35-40+ estimate is probably pretty accurate, IMO.

tRant is just a troll board, for the most part, with very little good content. I actually find some of the Bama posters on there (many of whom have been banned from here) to be among the worst.
That being said, as far as the age thing goes; I deal with the public every day and can tell you that age doesn't equal maturity.
