ATTALLA, Ala. -- Freddie Kitchens is who is he. On that, he leaves no doubt. So how did he get that way? A few weeks ago, I went to Alabama, to his hometown in Gadsden, to his home school in Attalla, to his dream school in Tuscaloosa, to talk to the people who shaped the new coach of the Cleveland Browns. We’ll bring you those stories starting today, including how Kitchens himself opened up about his upbringing and the people he’s grateful to for showing him the way. At the top of that list is his father, and we begin today with the tale of how Big Freddie taught Little Freddie. Freddie Kitchens’ attitude is born of a father and reinforced by a community, one rewarded as a high school star and tested as a college quarterback, one shaped in Northeast Alabama and delivered to Northeast Ohio. It’s the Freddie Kitchens story, Built in Bama. We hope you’ll follow along by clicking the link to each day’s part.

Wednesday, Feb. 20: Chapter 5.

Is Chapter 3,4 or 5 covering his intense physical fitness routine?

head coach of the Browns? I don't watch the NFL anymore so I didn't know this.

Good for Freddie!

Back in school, I used to end up at a lot of the same parties as him... Let's just say that after those experiences, I had very little confidence in the quarterback of my university. Drunken slob was a term that got thrown around a bit. Truly unfair, but it seems that time has proven our stupid asses wrong.

He's paid his dues and seems to be on an upswing; shockingly the Browns should be a decent team this year as well.

It's funny, looking back on an Iron Bowl from way-back-when that we basically threw away, that the idiot that dialed up a stupid pass in the flat and the QB that poorly executed the throw are a couple of NFL head coaches. Life is a strange thing.

I think the people that see Cleveland as a punch line are in for an awakening. They've got a lot of young talent. I see Freddie doing some damage in that division soon.

Hell man; I'm glad he did. I get to joke that I used to get sloppy drunk with the Browns head coach on Thursday nights. Good times; it being during the season was a bit questionable.

He was always a nice guy, I'm rooting for him.

ha. damn right

: )

edit: hmmm. Come to think of it, you may can be our new, and ultimate, insider. I'm sure Freddie has all the good info out of Tuscaloosa. And who knows, though he pretty obviously prefers the NFL, he may be our head coach someday.

I remember a thread a few years back on TideSports from another poster who had similar experiences with Freddie with the funny addition of Kitchens' continual drunken attempts to hook up with the poster's then GF (now ex-wife).

I remember when Payton Manning bought pizzas for everyone waiting in line for Tenn tickets. We all joked that Freddie would have eaten them all.

I hope he's grown up quite a bit since his days on campus.

A friend of a friend of mine has a now ex-wife as a result of the same situation...

Like I said, hope he's grown up in 20 years.

There’s a story of when Freedit got hit so hard that he shite his pants during a game. You could see a brown place on his pants and when he got back to the huddle all of the offensive players were gagging from the smell.
