For once I agree with Joey Galloway on CFB final

If Tua injures the ankle again, you can dog cuss and question Saban all you want. But he injured his hip on a freak accident tackle. Has nothing to do with his ankle.
I stand with Saban on this, our star QB wanted to finish the half and he wanted him to get 2 minute practice. This ain’t on the coaching staff. It’s also not on Tua, he happens to unfortunately be an injury prone player. Prayers for him on a speedy recovery and nothing but the best of wishes to him and his family in what he wants to do in the future.
But I put no blame on Saban and our coaching staff for playing him in the remainder of a first half. Now let’s nut up, beat Auburn with Mac and beat whoever the frick we play in the Sugar Bowl.
If this has already been posted frick it, I didn’t check the board.

This was a pure shite injury. During the game, I wanted to blame Saban, but when I cooled down, I just caught myself

I’ve said this before. It’s football, it’s a violent game. Players are going to get to injured if they play long enough and some more then others.
They go above and beyond to protect these player’s today. When I say that I mean to the extreme and especially QB’s. But a player’s career is always one play away from being over at any given time when their on that field.
I told my wife and friends yesterday after Tua was carted off the field that Saban will be blamed for this. Some fans will be quick to blame him but the media will absolutely try and destroy Saban for this. The narrative was being pushed last night.

I said it in another thread and I’ll say it again. Tua is injury prone because he’s hard wired to never give up on a play. The competitor in him won’t let him give up, even on just a single snap. So he does things that put him in harms way. I love the warrior spirit in the young man but it’s also his downfall.

He’s Drew Brees without a mental clock at this point and he’s going to ruin his career if he doesn’t change that.

Yep, I also changed my opinion after calming down and thinking about it.
If the kid is healthy enough to play, you play him. He was having a hell of a game with no indications he needed to come out.

I said in another thread that if you are inclined to put the injury on Saban, you've got to split the responsibility with Tua as well.
Its 3rd down with 2 minutes to go in the half and you have a 28 point lead and just had surgery 3 weeks ago. When the play busts, you've got to put it in the 30th row. We don't need him to be a hero. Instead, he rolled 20 yards left on a hobbled ankle and waited until the last second to get rid of it. It was an entirely unnecessary hit to take.
You've got to protect yourself better than that, especially when you're already banged up.

I guess I'll play devil's advocate here-
While I agree for the most part I personally keep thinking that a healthy Tua doesnt get caught from behind by a DL. (He clearly had lost not one but several steps since the surgery)
Also the staffs inability to train Tua to get rid of the ball leaves me at a loss for words. Tua needed to be benched after that int at the goalline vs Tennessee.
Even if only for a series or two he needed to sit. That was the exact kind of mentality that Tua has when he's not taking what the defense gives, and ventures off into hero-ball which has always been at the detriment of the TEAM. If they couldn't train him to cut that out then maybe a benching would have reached him. (for the good of Tua and the team imo)
All that said it's a physical game, and Tua knew the risks of extending plays and not getting rid of the ball. I'll never understand why he refused to get rid of the ball. I guess that's just the gunslinger in him, and nobody was able to break him of it.
The team depends so much on Tua this year that he had to know that protecting himself was what was best for the team... not extending plays, and taking hits in a blowout.
