re: Football Recruiting & Roster
Kid did a good job at misdirection to make his commit a surprise . Hopefully his recruitment isn't over. I have a feeling we are going to get at least one off the radar late DB commit in this class. I'm a little mad at Shaft Williams cause he usually has the scoop on the UF people .

Top247 DL Monkell Goodwine previews upcoming commitment (BOL | segment)

quote:

Four-star defensive end  Monkell Goodwine is just days away from announcing his college decision. The Fort Washington (Md.) National Christian Academy product is down to five programs ahead of Saturday, Aug. 15. He tells BamaOnLine he’s aiming towards releasing his commitment video around 11 a.m.-12 p.m. CT.

“I wanted to do it early because I just wanted to put my name on the football roster,” Goodwine told BamaOnLine why he settled on Aug. 15 for a commitment date. “On top of that, I just want to end my recruitment. It’s been so long and a lot of things have been happening. I wanted to get it all over with. I feel relief with it.”

Goodwine plans to enroll early at his next stop, which he said he’s already decided on in his mind. Here’s a breakdown of each of Goodwine’s top five and why they made the final cut.

Alabama:

“The communication part. The head coach, Coach Saban, he talks with me from time to time now. I think just the communication part with it, things are great. On top of that, there’s a couple D-linemen that are leaving from Bama. I think they’re a great fit for me right now.” . . .

re: Football Recruiting & Roster
Goodwine has 5 CB picks, all made in late July: 3 high confidence to Bama by Tim & Hank and a Maryland mod; 1 medium confidence to Bama by Brian Dohn (Atlantic region mod); and 1 medium confidence to TAMU by Brian Peroni (A&M mod).

Thanks TS. So I would say we are the favorites to land him unless "he decides to shock the world".

re: Football Recruiting & Roster
FSU QB commit Luke Altmyer not closing door on Tide (BOL | segment)
quote:

Alabama continues on its quest for a quarterback in the 2021 cycle with the two names most often mentioned being Texas commit  Jalen Milroe and FSU commit  Luke Altmyer. The latter, a four-star product of Starkville (Miss.), landed a UA offer earlier this summer, and ever since it’s been consistent contact between the two parties.

“It’s been really good,” Altmyer said of his talks with Bama. “A lot of healthy conversations with Coach Saban, Coach Sarkisian, and Coach Freddie Roach, the D-line coach, he’s from around here, so we stay in touch often. (I’m also in contact with) A couple of their analysts and stuff like that.”

The Seminoles pledge says UA really doesn’t have to do much recruiting to catch his eye. “I think Alabama kind of speaks for itself,” Altmyer said. “I don’t think they have to do a lot of talking or recruiting to try and get you to come there. Their winning kind of recruits itself. They’ve done a couple of virtual tours with me. I’ve talked to a lot of different people. They’re really great people.”

The virtual tours impressed the four-star signal caller. “It was incredible. It really was,” he said. “The facilities, they’re insane. They’re always trying to one-up the other, and they’re obviously the best at what they do. It’s really insane.”

It’s Sarkisian who Altmyer noted as the one Tide coach he’s become closest with. He’s a fan of both Sarkisian the coach and person. “It’s super efficient,” Altmyer said of Sark’s offense. “He’s going to adapt to his players to put them in the best position to be good. He’s a really cool guy to talk to. I love talking on the phone with him.”

Sarkisian landed Bryce Young in the 2020 cycle. Altmyer says he would welcome the potential competition with the former five-star. “I think anywhere you go you’re going to have to compete,” Altmyer said. “There are great players everywhere. Bryce is one of the best, but that’s definitely not going to deter me in any way.”

Altmyer isn’t in a huge rush to close down his recruitment to other programs not named FSU with the uncertainty of the current climate in college football. “You never want to burn any bridges,” he said. “You never know what can happen with anything, especially right now. I think closing doors and burning bridges is the wrong decision, especially right now.” The schools in play? “Mainly just Ole Miss, Alabama, and Florida State,” Altmyer said.

As for his pledge to the Seminoles, where do things stand? “I love it. It’s a beautiful place,” Altmyer said. “I’m super excited. But like I said, you never want to burn any bridges or close the doors with anybody, especially a program like Alabama.” . . .

re: Football Recruiting & Roster
Bill Kurelic (OSU mod) posts last night:
quote:

Good evening Bucknuts subscribers! There is plenty going on with Ohio State football recruiting so let’s get started! I will of course have plenty more throughout the night and tomorrow.

1) Most of the articles and talk today here on Bucknuts was related to the possibility of the Big Ten football season and quite possibly the college football season being canceled. And the talk surrounding that talk is totally understandable - the college football season is the No. 1 thing on most people’s minds right now when they come to Bucknuts. But with that said, let’s go with Ohio State football recruiting with item No. 1 this afternoon.

You may or may not have seen Brian Perroni’s article this morning on Ohio State defensive end commitment Tunmise Adeleye, posted on our 247Sports Texas A&M site. Adeleye told Perroni it remains the same three schools pursuing him hard, Texas A&M, Alabama and Florida just as Adeleye told me months ago. And just as Adeleye has previously told me, those three schools plan to recruit him all the way to the end.

Adeleye also told Perroni that as of now he does not plan to make an official visit to any of those schools, though he did not 100% rule out a change of thinking on that down the road. But it is excellent news that Adeleye continues to feel good about his commitment to the Buckeyes, isn’t looking to change his mind, and the only school he is planning to make an official visit to is Ohio State.

Of the current 19 Ohio State commitments, Adeleye is the only one that I am really keeping much of an eye on at all in regards to making a flip. And that is in large part because those three schools continue to pursue Adeleye so hard. I continue to feel good about the chances of Adeleye signing with Ohio State.
quote:

mbabuck said... (original post)Hi Bill - Odds on TA signing with the good guys?

I have them at at least 80% right now.

ETA: Per Peroni's article, Adeleye is back in Katy, TX taking classes to graduate and enroll early and might not be playing this fall.

Doubtful. He has always been a crappy recruiter. The pull to stay close to home is just really strong right now. Florida and Miami had been striking out badly on the top in state kids until a couple of weeks ago for a reason.
