re: Football Recruiting & Roster
J’Quincy McKinstry is such an Auburn player sounding name that I cannot get excited about our chances. Ha!

re: Football Recruiting & Roster
If NSD were right now, Koolaid to Bama, Marshall would be a weird NSD deal where he'd delay his commitment for a few hours and be on the phone with all 3 staffs before probably signing with Miami due to local pressures (just a wild guess), and Bama would take Jackson.

As we've been saying for a while on here, get 2 out of 3 and you can't go wrong.

Marshall has committed to Bama's staff before. Miami tried to hot box him (Ed Reed) into publicly committing to them yesterday. But Bama got wind of it and talked him out of it. At least that's how I've seen it explained. It's been wild and bizarre.

How much is Reed getting paid to be Miami’s bagman?

Not really sure what's going on. I've heard nothing of foul play (though there could be, for all I know). Reed is a future Hall of Famer, so he would probably make a good salesman. I'd like to have him on our staff.

Reed was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019. Saw him being introduced in Atlanta when the Patriots beat the Rams.

Ah. Didn't realize he'd been retired that long. Was thinking it was within the last 3 or 4 yrs when he retired.

re: Football Recruiting & Roster
Ed Reed left Miami in 2001. Who have they produced since then that's worth a damn at safety? I mean, Ed Reed is legendary but Marshall probably wasn't even born when he was a Cane. Alabama has several safeties in the league right now that are All-Pro caliber and at least one has HoF potential in Minkah.

Sean Taylor was a first round pick in 2004. But he passed away far too soon.

Brandon Meriweather was a first round pick in 2007. Kenny Phillips in 2008.

I saw a headline that was maybe from Hank South about Bama and Xavian Sorey, and the latest on that. Any news on that front?

Where things stand between Alabama and Xavian Sorey (BamaOnLine | segments)
quote:

All-American OLB  Xavian Sorey cut his list to five in early June — Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, and LSU. And despite an offseason of uncertainty, Sorey has remained steadfast on one thing: he’s taking his recruitment the distance.

“I’m not gonna do a top tour, three, or two, nothing like that,” Sorey told BamaOnLine. “I’m going to take all five officials to those five schools if we can. I plan on signing in December on signing day. That’s been the plan the whole time.”

The Crimson Tide offered the now IMG Academy standout early on in the process, and was considered an early favorite by those tracking his recruitment, evidenced by the 247Sports Crystal Ball trending to the Tide as things stand.

“Bama, they’re still in my top five, so they’re still on me and stuff like that,” Sorey said. “I’ve got good relationships with Coach Sal (Sunseri) and Coach (Nick Saban and Coach (Charles) Kelly. I hear from them a lot. I talk to all them. Everything is good with them.”

Sorey and Sunseri’s bond dates back to the Tide assistant’s time at Florida when he was first to offer the elite ‘backer.“Me and Coach Sal, we talk every day,” Sorey said. “We’ve got a great relationship. We talk about football, about life, about everything. Coach Kelly, too.”

Sorey stays in frequent contact with Saban as well. “We FaceTime all the time,” Sorey said. “Really he just talks to me about my versatility and stuff like that. He always asks me what I want to play. I can never give him a clear answer. I like offense, defense … I just like football. They said I can be moved around a lot, too, because of my athleticism and my versatility, I can move around to different positions and stuff.”

Now at IMG Academy after making the move from Graceville (Fla.) this summer, Sorey is around two Tide pledges in JC Latham and Jacorey Brooks. “JC, that’s my guy. We’re all cool. Jacorey, too,” Sorey said. “Really just we’re hanging out. We’re teammates, classmates, stuff like that.”

Sorey has seen UA firsthand on more than one occasion. Asked what differentiates the program from other schools recruiting him … “They’re just straight business,” he said. “You go there and do what you gotta do, you’re almost guaranteed to proceed to the next level. The history of Alabama football is crazy.”

Fast forward to December … why could Sorey see himself signing on the dotted line with UA? “Really just I think I’m one of the greats,” he said. “I feel like people that go to Bama, they’re already set. They just go there to work and get better and do what they’ve been doing. They have great coaches. I feel like I’m one of those guys that can play in Bama’s atmosphere, and really just playing for Coach Saban. I imagine it’s tough playing for him and trying to stand up to his expectations, but I feel I could.”

I think with Jeremiah Williams going else where , it’s nice that we can sit back and wait for Sorey in December . If we don’t get him we’re fine at that position. Roll Tide!!!

re: Football Recruiting & Roster
One great thing about Sorey is that he projects well at both Inside and Outside LB. I want three more from Florida -- Sorey, Arnold and Marshall. Flipping Adeleye would be nice too, but I'll be content with those three.

re: Football Recruiting & Roster
Sorey athleticism is out of the roof .. just look at his basketball highlights. My only thing with the DBs is Jackson is totally legit . I think Marshall would be great to add I just don’t want to lose Jackson waiting on Marshall. But I agree with Arnold totally want . And Adeleye or JT tuimola would be awesome for D line
