re: Football Recruiting & Roster
I'm not sure this has to do with talent... UNC has strong pull in Virgina in both sports and then Mac Brown has Dre Bly leading the recruitment and that's a tough one to win.

We dont need him though, this DB class could be epic

re: Football Recruiting & Roster
Bama hasn't been recruiting Grimes. He came to a Bama Junior Day in Feb, 2019. There hasn't been any significant Bama activity with him since then. There are at least 5 CBs ahead of him on Bama's board -- Koolaid, Marshall, Smith, Jackson, McCutchin...

I don't believe Tim or Hank knows this unless they are getting the information directly from Kirby.

I don't know about all of those guys being ahead of Grimes but I get the impression Clemson commit Jordan Hancock was near or at the top of some boards.

re: Football Recruiting & Roster
Who's next? Alabama's remaining CB targets (BOL | segments)
quote:

Alabama landed four-star cornerback Devonta Smith on Monday evening as the Ohio native becomes the first at his position to commit to the Crimson Tide. With cornerback a pressing need for Nick Saban and company in 2021, BamaOnLine takes a peek at five other cornerbacks of note the Tide is after:

Ga'Quincy McKinstry, 5-star CB, Pinson (AL) Pinson Valley

The five-star, in-state cornerback remains atop Alabama’s recruiting board with his top five teams (Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, and LSU) vying for his pledge. Although if you’ve followed this one close, the feeling is it’s more of an Alabama/Auburn/LSU battle than anything. Some, myself included, feel McKinstry will stay within the state of Alabama and choose between the Crimson Tide or Tigers when all is said and done. There’s never been a clear-cut favorite for McKinstry with the 247Sports Crystal Ball favoring Auburn early, but when you’re looking at factors in his decision, like comfortability, need at his position, development, the opportunity to also play basketball … UA checks all the boxes. Auburn of course does, too, but the Tide has done a good job recruiting McKinstry to date. A decision could come at really any time.

Jason Marshall, 5-star CB, Miami (FL) Palmetto

There have been some fun South Florida recruitments, particularly in the secondary, to see unfold in Alabama’s favor at the end of the day. In 2017 the Tide flipped Daniel Wright from Florida State late in the cycle, longtime Miami commit Josh Jobe — despite shutting his recruitment down in the spring of 2017 — flipped to Alabama shortly before the Early Signing Period for the class of 2018, the Tide surged ahead for Ohio State commit Jordan Battle in the late summer and fall of 2018 before flipping the elite safety on Early Signing Day. Arguably the most notable addition at the position was five-star cornerback Patrick Surtain II when most considered him a heavy lean to LSU throughout his recruitment. Bottom line: Alabama can recruit the best of the best in South Florida, and is proving that, really in the state as a whole, it can have success against Florida, Florida State, and Miami in their own back yard. Marshall could be another example of that as he has the Tide in his top three with Florida and Clemson. The Gators have felt confident for a while in their chances to keep Marshall in the Sunshine State, but it’s evident that UA is a real player to potentially pull Marshall out of Miami.

Khyree Jackson, JUCO CB, East Miss. C.C.

There are three JUCO cornerbacks Alabama is involved for, but Jackson is the most likely of the bunch at this juncture after the Tide offered him last month. Alabama quickly shot up into his top five and appears as though it’s in strong position for the JUCO standout when he is ready to make a choice, which as of Monday looks as though won’t come until he can take in-person visits (which is a pivot from his original July 11 commitment plans). That of course could change as we’ve seen the recruiting calendar change. The Tide, Oklahoma, and Florida appear as though to be the main teams in play.

Latrell McCutchin, 4-star CB, Austin (TX) LBJ

Could the one-time Alabama pledge rejoin the fold? It’s entirely possible. BamaOnLine recently caught up with the four-star DB who said there’s still plenty of love for the Tide. “Bama is still at the top of my list,” he said. “Always will be. They’re not going anywhere, so everybody might as well get used to hearing ‘Alabama’ when they’re speaking on my recruitment.” Oklahoma appears to be UA’s main challenger in the race to regain a pledge from McCutchin, who plans to take his recruitment to December.

Jaylin Smith, 4-star ATH, Mission Hills (CA) Bishop Alemany

Alabama could wrap up its cornerback haul with some sort of combination of any of the aforementioned four, but there are others in play. Smith recently caught up with Nick Saban over Zoom and remains in steady contact with Steve Sarkisian and the UA staff. The four-star athlete could really play any position in the secondary, but Saban compared him to former USC standout Adoree’ Jackson in terms of his overall ability. USC has the edge on the 247Sports Crystal Ball and is aided by the fact that Smith hasn’t been able to take visits to the SEC yet, which could change this fall. UA is firmly in the top five, though.

Other names of note:  Nathaniel WigginsJadarrius Perkins, De’Jahn WarrenJordan Hancock (Clemson commit).

re: Football Recruiting & Roster
Saw a post on Instagram from recruitnation saying the Qb we want from Mississippi Like Altmyer was number 2 in their rankings after day 1 of elite 11. I know it's different from the analysts but I like to see what others have to say because their isn't any bias.

Altmyer would be a a fantastic get at QB this year. And the truth is, if Young is a 3 and out...Altmeyer could come in and learn for couple of years and then potentially start his last 2-3 seasons at Bama. Better than going to the dumpster fire in Tallahassee right now IMO. Who wants to start on a 6-6 team getting hammered every other week?

re: Football Recruiting & Roster
I think our chances to flip Altmeyer probably get better if there is actually a football season. Norvell can sell him on a vision right now because he hasn't had to coach a game at Free Shoes yet. If they go 5-7 and look like total shite in the process with a QB who, for like the 5th consecutive year, gets beat to hell behind a sieve of an OL then our chances likely improve significantly regardless of how our QB situation shakes out.

Is it me or does anyone else hope that UNC lands top tier talent in the next few years to topple Clemson. They have been so close twice I believe

re: Football Recruiting & Roster
UNC getting good would help in a lot of ways. Them beating Clemson from time to time would be great and them beating out programs like UGA for top talent also helps us.
