Someone on another site mentioned that 3* OT Seth McLaughlin committed to Bama this afternoon. From GA. Can anyone confirm? I'm on my phone, so haven't really checked anywhere else yet.

BREAKING: Georgia OL commits to Alabama (BamaOnLine)
quote:

Alabama has won the Seth McLaughlin sweepstakes. The three-star offensive lineman from Buford, Ga. committed to the Crimson Tide following a visit to Tuscaloosa this weekend over schools like Clemson, Oklahoma, Michigan and South Carolina.

"I chose Bama because I just think that's where I'm going to excel most at as a person and a player," McLaughlin told BamaOnLine. "Playing for Coach (Nick) Saban is probably one of the greatest things a college football player could ever do since he's probably going to go down as the best college football coach in history. That's a big deal.

"Then Coach (Scott) Cochran I feel like, out of the schools I came down to, was the best weight coach. He's going to make me an absolute beast if I put in the work. Then also I've already formed a few friendships with guys on the team so I knew I could come in and fit in with the culture and excel socially on the team, too."

McLaughlin is the first offensive line commitment in Bama’s 2020 recruiting class, and the first pledge for new offensive line coach Kyle Flood. Safeties coach Charles Kelly is the new area recruiter for Buford, however, it's Flood who McLaughlin has communicated with most, he says.

It wasn't just coaches that helped McLaughlin make his mind up, though. "I think the moment I knew was when I was sitting there talking with Pierce Quick and he was talking to me about how great everything was," McLaughlin said. "I asked him all my questions and he answered them and made me feel really good about coming to Alabama."

McLaughlin has visited Tuscaloosa twice so far in 2019, the first trip coming at the beginning of February. In all, he’s been on campus five times throughout his recruitment. The Tide covets the Peach State lineman for a number of reasons, including his versatility.

“Coach Flood said that I’m kinda unique in my class just because I have a center and guard body, but he thinks I have a tackle skillset, so I could probably play anywhere on the offensive line there,” McLaughlin told BOL last month. “And nobody thinks I’m really done growing yet, because I still shave like once every two weeks. They think I could still possibly grow and develop into a tackle, but I’d be perfectly fine playing center and guard in the SEC.”

At 6-foot-4, 270 pounds, the 247Sports Composite ranks McLaughlin the No. 88 offensive tackle and the No. 916 overall player in the country. McLaughlin’s commitment is No. 13 for the Tide’s No. 1-ranked class, taking Bama’s score to 230.60 on the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings. Second place Miami sits with 11 commitments, good for a score of 200.90.

Nuggets from The Opening in Atlanta:

Andy Boykin rockin' his Alabama hoodie, said Alabama is his leader.

McKinnley Jackson wearing Bama gloves, Hank CBd him to Bama today.

Brian Branch CBd to Bama by Demetric Warren.

Tate Ratledge -- Sounds like Bama has fallen behind UGA and UT since Brent Key left, but he said he's talked to Saban, wants to get to know Kyle Flood and plans to take an OV to Bama.

Javier Morton said his commitment is solid, that it’s hard to imagine playing anywhere else. He was adamant about his status with the Tide.

EJ Williams said he “loves” Alabama, especially new assistant Charles Kelly, and plans to visit again next month. He says several schools are tied right now. He plans to commit on Aug. 24 to honor his father who passed away on that day.

Looks like we picked up another commit today, but I am guessing a walk-on?

Seth McLaughlin reminds me a little bit of Barrett Jones based on that rendering of him and his versatility. He may be a diamond in the rough that hasn't really blossomed yet. We'll see if it sticks.

Just remove the helmet padding so it'll fit. His hair will work fine as padding.
